Wireless central heating control

    Hi

I'm looking for advice on options to replace my analogue non-temperature controlled central heating control. I find myself getting too hot or too cold, forgetting to turn heating on when I need etc.

I have two switches that control upstairs and downstairs rad pumps. So I was thinking two wireless thermostats one in the landing upstairs and one downstairs, two zones.

I don't want to do any plumbing (bar perhaps installing thermostatic controls on the rads themselves?) but am happy enough to do the electrical side.

    Any recommendations?

I'm looking at evohome, specifically for the room based zoning and hot water control which a lot of the other 'smart' units don't offer.

I've seen reviews that complain that you need everything to have a wireless valve or else anything that doesn't will heat all the time. How have you found it?

    Hi,

Evohome comes wth a WiFi Controller and valve for radiator controller.
    Special kit HERE !
Hot water does well but I mainly control it from the other controller aka solar tubes.
All working fine so far.You get a lots of adapters for radiators. You will need to have these valves on each and every radiator in the system !

One single issue that i had, when i changed / upgraded the radiators is that the thermostatic valve pin is not "big" long / enough to fully accomodate the Evo valve controller unit, so it kind of stays there but not fully screwed. If i had to do it,then it will have closed the inside element of the valve completely !

    Enjoy it !

How noisy are the valves? I've seen people say they wake you up in bedrooms as rad comes on?

That's a nice system though and a reasonable price imo.

    That review would be nice.
I'd like to know can any TVR call in the heating

The lightwaverf tvrs were very noisy they would wake you up.

I posted them back to the UK and they upgraded the firmware. it made a huge difference, so maybe these guys being loud is old news too.

Any tvr can definitely call in the heating, issues mentioned online etc are really around the expense as any rad or towel rail without a tvr will heat constantly if any rad with one calls heating on.

I've seen people mention it has gotten better and possible it seems to depend on the install and the stats already in place. Reviews seem to be vague enough, although generally it seems to be considered the most fully featured system.

My concerns are the expense of system plus say 10 rads and the potential need for wireless stats to go with rads anyway if install radiator covers.

Does seem far the easiest way to properly zone a home though, I'm redoing heating system also and zoning by room at plumbing stage appears to be considered ludicrous by all plumber asked to quote.

I could hear them, sometime when the turn full on or full off in the quiet time / hours.
Lets say at 5am turning on/off is scary for first few days but I got used to them now,is part of the brain learning process ! My wife hasn't complained yet :)

I choose them versus zoning the house in two or three areas as been the least expensive.
The controller does its magic local and from remote location.
