Accord suspension ball joint worn out

    All,
my honda accord 2ltr petrol 2006 model failed NCT due to front passenger side suspension ball joint TOP worn out.
went to advance pit stop for a quote - lad checked my NCT sheet and said the whole arm must be replaced (just the ball joint can't be replaced).
also wheel alignment needs to be done after that.
    so approx 230euros he said.

went to a smaller garage who had to get a price for parts. will ring me back soon.
but he said it should be around 90+labour.

    does these quotes make sense?
does the whole arm need to be replaced ?

    any suggestions from experts.

Micks garage has a top ball joint listed for €20
    http://www.micksgarage.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=5106488&carid=17126

..out of stock at present but there are plenty more motor factors out there.
The main point is that it would appear to be possible to buy just the upper joint on it's own.

may be due to huge work involved in replacing just the joint, i guess mechanics are quoting for the full arm replacement..

There are two bushes and a ball joint on that Upper control arm, it is possible to press the balljoint out but it may distort the arm in the process.
For the whole arm its only 60-70 euro and what you pay for in a new arm you save in labour plus you get new bushings all around.
I'd buy a new one and get it fitted.
Mine is giving bother as well now and thats the route I'll be going down.

I think that even though a few manufacturers list an upper ball joint, it's not actually available.
