Making a complaint about a solicitor

Has anyone any experience with making a complaint about a solicitor?

I engaged a solicitor to help with the sale of my house and the purchase of another house. There have been problems from the very beginning cumulatting today when he contacted me to tell me he couldn't act on my behalf due to an issue within the firm. I don't want to go into too much detail on a public forum, but happy to discuss in PM. The long delays caused by this solicitor is going to cost me the house we have agreed to purchase which in turn could affect the rate of interest I will pay on my mortgage going forward by up to 2% (can explain this in PM also). I have documented everything and have all emails and notes from each call. Would there be any point in complaining to the law society or am I just wasting my breath? TIA for any help / suggestions.
