Would you report a taxi?

Working in a garage you get to see what other people find acceptable for their cars. From second hand tyres to servicing on a bi-yearly basis etc etc. Usually I look at it as 'it's their car' but today is a different story.

A taxi driver comes in for the most basic of services. I draw attention to a large bulge on the side of his tyre, tell him it's a serious safety concern and he laughs. Tells me it's been like that weeks and it's not a problem. This is a Public Service Vehicle, safety should be paramount.

So what say you good people of Boards, should an email to the taxi regulator be sent?? Would it do any good?? Am I just being caught up by grumpy Monday??

It would be sensible to report him! I've seen plenty of taxis in Dublin with bald tyres as well.

Would you like a member of your family or a friend to travel in that taxi?
I would report, you pointed it out to him and he had the opportunity to fix the problem which he does not appear to have taken.

The Taxi Regulators are suppose to be quite good at following up complaints

I'd mind my own business but that's just me.

Taxi regulator is useless. Make a Traffic Watch report and he'll end up flagged on Pulse.

report him. if that was any other public service vehicle theyd be taken off the road and in a whole world of crap taxi drivers should be no different

If the vehicle has been left back on the road in an unsafe manner without signed contest and acknowledgment of the owner of the risk, there could also be some liability on the garage.

Always protect yourself even if the owner of the vehicle does not care.

at what point does it become you're business? only if he crashes in to you? if it's someone else that's killed or injured then that's ok because its not your business?

i would have let the air out of the tire and let on it was fault of the bulge .

I worked for a guy a few years ago. I noticed the tracking was off on his van (that I drove sometimes). the front tire was wearing very badly on one side. he said it doesn't matter and it will be alright.
a week later I was to drive the van the coming day. I knew the tire was dangerous at that point (wire coming out through it) so I drove a knife through it.
problem solved. new tire bought .
I probably broke the law but it was either that or risk my life in that death trap.

I have reported numerous taxis drivers.

How does one end up in that position? I've got taxis all my life but never reported anybody. Some people are just hellbent on going on a moral crusade.

He's a mod in motors, good chance his day job has him interacting with vehicles in some form or another.

I'm a taxi driver and I say report him. He should at least put the spare wheel on temporarily until he was in a position to sort the bulging tyre issue.
