Can't attend interview.

So to cut a long story short I hate my job. My boss has to be the most unprofessional person I have ever met and the other boss is nothing short of a bully. He curses at me daily, makes me feel like a piece of dirt and undermines all my work, even when I know it's right

I had an interview today at 2pm and asked for a half day as part of my holidays (only got the call last night so could only ask them this morning) this would mean I would have to leave at 1. I was shot down. Just said no sorry I have to mind kids.

I am fuming, I know it's short notice but the place I am working has sometimes been closed for two days at a time with no one here and I only wanted cover for one hour.

This was the job of my dreams and now I can't attend the interview - I emailed them and explained my case in the hope that I can get a later time, which I doubt, I know a lot of people will say I shoul led have rang in sick but I didn't want to leave them in the lurch.

    Rant over.

Don't worry yet, the new employer may understand. They didn't give you much notice for the interview so I'm sure they can be a bit flexible.

    Thanks Pilly,

For some reason I am really annoyed at my boss, I know its really short notice so it is more than likely only my own frustrations coming out.

First of all, an employer ringing you on a Sunday evening to attend an interview on Monday at 2pm is strange not to mention very short notice.

You owe your current employers nothing as you said they treat you awful on a daily basis. Leaving them in the lurch should have been the least of your worries. Ringing in sick if this was your dream job was the way to go, or else when you arrived first thing this morning you should have said there was a family issue that had to be dealt with for a couple of hours at lunchtime and it was unavoidable. Unfortunately now you're in a position where you gave no solid reason to leave early and can't change your story.

All you can hope for is that the employer gives you an alternative time or date and doesn't hold this against you.

    All the best.

Oh I know I've been in the same situation myself, it's very difficult. As soon as the other employer comes back to you put in place a plan to make sure you make the interview. It's the only thing you can do. Hopefully they will see from the fact that you wouldn't leave your current employer in the lurch that you're a reliable person.

Depending on the industry, getting a call on a Sunday to come in Monday wouldn't be all that unusual. A lot of very busy people make their phone calls on Sunday. And a lot of places need a new position filled very quickly and so need to set up the interviews quickly.

It's just so annoying as they have now come into work and never mentioned that I asked for it off, said we will be back later we are going for coffee and breakfast. I did say it was a family issue I said I needed to bring my dad to a hospital app and he was stuck.
