What birds flying overhead at night? (ID'd as Redwings)

    Hi,

    The last 4 days or so hearing birds flying overhead at night ie: 23:00/00:00 over North Dublin the sound I could only describe as a shirt tsssssst. Winter Thrushes?

    Would be interested to know. Thank you

    They're Redwings, a type of winter thrush! Have only heard the first ones in Wicklow last night though there were sightings of them around the previous day I think. Should be a regular sound the next couple of weeks!

    That is extremely unlikely. Gannett aren't known for night flight.

    It was most probably migrating winter thrushes.

    It wasn't a Gannet, it was Redwings - great to have them back again and from what I hear there are plenty of berries around to keep them going well into the winter!
