Zyxel D1000 - odd behaviour - autodialling??

Living rurally in West of Ireland and we have an Eircom landline with a broadband aDSL connection with poor dl/ul speeds.
I also, coincidentally use a Three.ie mifi dongle (3g) to get better speeds (not great but better...)

    So, here is the issue.
When we are on the landline telephone around 8pm or so in the evening (particularly on evenings) we have had cut across with the sound of something autodialling.
Around this time my son (who uses the D1000 for his connection down in the far room) says his internet goes off at this time.

In my mind there are 2 possibilities.
One is that this is the D1000 router doing this (maybe due to poor ADSL microfilter isolation) or....

We have some hardware for our house alarm which connects to a service not unlike Eircom phonewatch. At the times this happens the alarm will not be armed but maybe it does an "ET phones home" routine in the evening....

Anyone able to shed light on this.
Maybe firstly to eliminate it being a Zyxel/Eir broadband hardware issue.
    ...

Can you describe what it sounds like?

Those alarms have mostly been taken off landlines as the SMS service was removed. A GSM upgrade is something that might be worth considering as an aside.

In some cases you'll hear a rapid sound like speakers picking up a mobile phone thats monotone, thats the modem upstream hunting for a sync and indicates a wiring issue.

If its actually like touch tones though then thats likely to be the alarm.
