Trees in pots - should be easy but.....

This will sound like an easy one but I've tried everything I can think of so please help.

We have 2 medium sized trees in ceramic pots outside the front door and there's a fair bit of weight in them but somehow they keep blowing over in the wind.

The trees are very thick so I think they're catching the wind and pulling the pots over sort of like a sail in the wind.

Anyway, Im useless at anything DIY related but I thought some cement under the pots would glue them to the tarmac.
But it didnt work at all.
The cement stuck to the tarmac but not the ceramic pots. No idea why it didnt stick to the pots?

Someone suggested drilling into the wall behind them and then wrappinga wire around the pots but the wall isn't suitable for drilling into (long story)

So is there anything else I can do?

I realise now that I should have put a load of pebbles into the bottom of the pots to weigh them down before putting in the trees but its too late now.

Any clever ideas? Could really use a bit of help coz I dont know what else to try.

    Thanks :)

Larger pots, wider bases, fill bottom with rocks to weigh down.

The cement probably didn't stick to the pots if they were glazed?

Is the bottom of the pot glazed? You could try some of the building adhesives like Gripfill, etc. I used some Bostick stuff recently for gluing timber to a concrete floor and it is also suitable for outside. I think it also glues stone to stone.

It's serious stuff anyway and should do what you want. Alternative is to put the pots on a flagstone/patio slab and glue it to that!

Are there not wedge-type things that you can get to put under the pot that will steady it?

Not sure how to describe them, but I'm sure any garden centre would help.

Either that, or get a much wider-based pot for them!

cheers everyone for the replies. Some good suggestions.
And yes I realise I screwed up by not putting in loads of stones at the bottom when planting the treeto begin with but the posts are pretty heavy so I'm still amazed they keep blowing over.

@Tedimc yes there appears to be a glaze on the underside of the pot, not something I had looked for or expected when using the cement :o
