Got a quote for a new rear bumper for Toyota Avensis, 151 Reg.

    €1,000 for spraying, fitting, etc.

    Seem like a good price?

Is the old one beyond repair?

Bashed in, by me hitting it, tbh. Don't want to go insurance route so don't have too many options.

I should add that dealer is providing use of a car to injured party for 2 days while work is being done. No extra charge for that.

Sounds about right. Not overly cheap or expensive.

Make sure you're happy with paint job before accepting it. Don't wait till you get home and regret it. Best time is before you take your keys back.

    Good luck

I'm guessing it's not the OP's car but rather that the OP hit someone else's car and paying to replace it themselves instead of going through their insurance.

When u say bashed in, is it cracked or dented?

The person he hit has the right to a brand new genuine bumper, it really is irrelevant how badly damaged it is in this case, his hands are tied

Did he hit someone else or is it his own car.
I don't see where he said which.

I hit the Avensis, a stupid and expensive misjudgement.

I was going to try and haggle a bit with the dealer, there's a charge of nearly 300 euro for the paint itself and "sundries", surely I should at least get a breakdown of the sundries. This is aside from the spraying, fittings and labour.

Well that's easily repairable - but if someone damaged it and it was mine I'd insist on a new genuine bumper

And I fully accept that, I'm sure I'd feel the same, especially on a 151 Reg. I just want to make the best deal possible with their garage to save myself a few quid. Virtually no damage to my car, small dent on rear wheel arch, but not a big deal so I don't wanna use insurance.

Once the other party is happy with getting the work repaired where they want then and you are paying for it then you are free to negotiate on the price with the repairing body shop/dealer.

Thanks for your input everyone. I'll ring the garage on Monday and see how it goes. Wish me luck!!

Im just guessing ahead but the way you are talking about insurance, a few weeks down the road an injury claim could possibly come up. Hopefully not of course

Now you're forcing me to tell more of the story than I want to admit! The car was parked and empty at the time, so hopefully no personal injury claims!
