    Hi all,

A friend of mine has a box that is missing a load of channels, I think it's cause they've a really old satellite.xml file. The problem is they are really non-technical and the box is miles away, is there anyway for them to update the file without ftp access to the box?

Its unlikely that the satellites xml file is the problem. It is more likely that channels has simply moved. Satellite XMLs only include a list of known transponders. The bouquet files have the rest of the info for each fav or satellite.

If its a E2 box. They have the option of rescanning the whole satellite or downloading a channel list of the satellite from the feeds. Of course this would mean that it would include everything with no order.

I think it's Showcase or Irish TV is missing, I checked the frequency for them and they mentioned Astra 2F which is new so I thought it might be the file

If its an E2 box running Vix or the like you just use the manual scan option for one group of channels. Like for Irish TV....manually scanning with the remote is...

Press menu, service searching, manul scan, change system to dvb-s, change frequency to 11686, changing polarisation to V, changing symbol rate to 22000 then pressing green button or ok button to scan. These are all on the one menu.

It will then be in their main satellite channel list for 28.2. E2 does not distinguish between 2F etc (its 2G anyway), they are all 28.2.

Its likely that they are not changing the dvb-s part. Its dvb-s2 by default when you pull the manual scan menu up.

    IrishTv is 11686 V 22000 DVB-S.

    Showcase is 11597 V 22000 DVB-S

These things happen. I just spent the last twenty minutes of a muddled discussion confusing megs and channels numbers with The Cush who is wide awake.
