How to know if my car has a DPF?

I've a 2007 new model Mondeo, 1.8 TDCI. I've no idea if it's fitted with a DPF. Doing short trips at the minute and don't want to find out the hard way if I do.

I don't think so, doing a bit of digging on the internet throws up some conflicting views but this seems to say it doesn't:

The 1.8 TDCI engine was never fitted with a DPF!

Can you elaborate on how you can say that with certainty? A source or similar?

Look underneath the car....the DPF on the mk4 models is just behind the front axle where the pipe straightens out after the bend where it comes down....at least that's where it is on my 2.0 2008 model....

It's just factual information. The 1.8 TDCI engine never came with a DPF. When DPF became a requirement the 1.8 TDCI was scrapped.

Because if you tried putting a DPF on that engine it would be a clinker in about 5,000 miles.

I was in a ford dealership last week and test driving the focus with 1.5 tdci. Mighty engine but the salesman claimed it did not have dpf and that the 1.6 tdci never had it. I was pretty sure the 1.6 had it but I cannot find info on the new 1.5.

Went in looking for petrol due to 6000km per year for wife but he was not keen and wanted to sell the diesel. Won't touch the 1.6 tdci and unfortunately the 1.5 is only out this year.

Can anyone shed light on this dpf story for Ford's.

The 1.5 has a DPF. some early versions of the 1.6 had no DPF, but more recent ones would have to have them to meet emissions.

    Pretty shady sales practices there.

I wondered that myself. Petrols are like hens teeth. He probably knew he couldn't get his hands on one and was very keen to sell the diesel. I went there with the thought of avoiding diesel due to my wife's very low mileage.

Ford abandoned petrol in Ireland for a few years.

Look at the likes of the Kia ceed and Hyundai i30 if you want a non turbocharged but relatively powerful and very reliable for its size petrol engine.
Toyotas 1.33 Dual VVT-i engined Auris and the Civic 1.4 i-VTEC should be considered too if you want something dependable,

DPFs were made mandatory on new diesel cars sold in the EU from 2011 onwards as part of complying with Euro 5 emission regulations. Upto 2011 they were fitted to certain engines only.

That salesman was lying through his teeth about the 1.5 TDCi not having one.

I bought a petrol 1.6 2011 focus off these guys in August. Just had a look at their site, there's a 2010 1.6 petrol for sale.
