Speed van

Was driving on a dual carriageway from Tallaght to Clondalkin and wasnt sure of a limit.
Overtook a car doing about 40 kph and had a car behind in outside lane flashing me for not going faster.
I saw the speed van on the other side of the road facing away from me and I'm wondering if he could have caught me speeding from that side of the road if it was a 50kph.

If if it was facing you on other side of road (windscreen towards you) when you were speeding, No.

If that's at the fire station the limit is 80

Never seen a van on the 80kph section of the Belgard Road, they live on the 60kph section though, I wonder why?

that's not true....they can still get you once you have gone past.

    Not at 40 km/h though

Going from Clondalkin to Tallaght on Belgard, it's 80 on the stretch by the firestation, but from Tallaght to Clondalkin it's 60 if you are driving alongside the golf course, down to 50 before Newlands Cross.

The rest of it is 60.

A well known poster on here got done for that exact spot, night time, opposite direction and centre median in the way, awful photo they sent.

Can't remember if they ever got out of it.

Only when you gone pass, but if you see the front of it first should be enough time to anchor up, but if the back is facing you on your side of the road most of the time its generally too late.

again not so, as reported recently on here, their range is very short indeed, a couple of car lengths. Plenty of time to stand the yoke on it's nose

    Hi

I passed a speed van yesterday in a 100kph zone. I am unsure if I was speeding .... The most I was doing was 103/104 kph. It didn't flash though. How much leeway is there and do
    They have to flash?

You might have been caught, or not.
No need to worry unnecessarily until a letter arrives.

I thought some nice person on boards might know the answer. I don't have time to be spending trying to find it here so I saw this post and decided to ask. Sorry for thinking there might be helpful people left in the world!

Literally everything that is wrong in the world right now: "Its not immediately obviously or staring me in the face, so someone else should find it for me."

Its the Irish mum-son mentality on the Internet. So you are not bothered to search but ask those that have bothered to either study or work in the industry to post multiple times?

The first hit answers your question:

    https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=boards.ie+speed+van+flash

I'm floored by your statement that your time is more important than anyone else.

Hmmm funny I don't see that "statement" in my post. If you are not happy with my question then ignore it and move on. If someone asked a question on boards in my profession id gladly answer if I have the time. Don't go putting words into my mouth so to speak here. I asked a question, if someone felt they could help great, if not then leave it ya know! Why are you on boards if you don't want to pass on information. SAD.

    I do.

You don't have the time to go searching for what you want but you expect others to give their time for free to help you.

If you can't see the arrogance and self-importance in that then... well, more selfishness really.

The link that pa990 posted contained a lot of well researched, documented details on the workings of speed detectors by mikeecho. The amount of time it would have taken you to search for that would be a fraction of the time he put into those posts, but you don't have the time.

What a bunch you all are?! I simply asked a question while browsing on boards! Jesus! I didn't say anything about my time being more important than anybody else's. I just said I asked it when I came across the post and I thought someone might help! SAD!

Theres a couple of hundred of posts and a mega thread from myself on this very topic, should you find the time to search :) Hence the reaction, this has been asked hundreds of times, often multiple of times per week. Please stop expecting hand outs in life, I'll explain once, after that I expect someone to check their notes or do a search, like any profession. If you have a new angle, fresh insight or a different approach to the same topic, I'm all ears and will happily answer if i can.

This has now come to an end.

The answer to your question is "maybe".
There is a really good guide here by ironclaw.
