    Mods please move if necessary.

On holiday (dear God!) in Malaga, due to flyback Sat night with Aer Lingus. One of our party has been hospitalised and will miss the flight with her daughter. We have a checked bag paid for on the daughter's ticket. Will try ring AL tomorrow but does anyone know off hand is it likely aer lingus will allow us transfer the bag to one of the people flying?

For a group booking, Aer Lingus allows aggregation of the weight allowance for checked baggage. So if you have a booking with a party of four and each ticket includes a 15 kg bag to be checked in, you can as a party collectively check in 60 kgs worth of bags e.g. 10, 15, 15 and 20 kgs. Usual trick is to check in the lighter bags first.

However if one or other of the party is not flying on the return leg with the rest of the group, I doubt if the people actually flying can use the baggage allowance paid for in respect of people not flying so you may have to pay for her bag.

OK thanks for that. Sure if we have to pay we have to pay, I suppose.

Coming back from the canaries with Lingus recently, people ahead of us were pulled for overweight and it was €50 per kilo. I was delighted as they were outright obnoxious people who pushed in ahead of the queue. Be mindful is all.

Oh its not a weight issue at all, it's just a bag with various lady creams and potions over 100 ml. I doubt any of us have a bag over 7kg. Absolutely with you on the overweight over sized bags.

Their site is telling me because the bookings were made together, the checked baggage can be pooled. Hoping this applies when it's only one bag.

Just to update and complete this, after finally managing to contact Aer Lingus on twitter (phone numbers listed for Spain did not work), they transferred the checked bag to one of the travelling passengers at no extra charge.

    I need a drink.
