    Hi,

I wonder how important is it to have your correct name on the nursing register ?

I have noticed one person who is using a different spelling of their first name, is this a problem ?

    Thanks

Your name on any register will usually be the one on your birth certificate, which may or may not be the name you usually use or have on other identification like bank accounts or household bills. Many people use the Irish or English version of their name although it may not be the one on their birth cert. Women sometimes use their maiden name, married name or a double-barreled version.
You can call yourself anything you like, and use any title you like provided it isn't a protected title, provided you don't attempt to mislead or defraud.
If the Ann Smith 123456 on the register chooses to call herself Anne Smyth I don't see a problem. The number is the identifier.

Okay thanks for your reply. Imagine Anne Smyth had quite a dubious record with the law. But Ann Smyth didn't, so used that name used the shorterned version on the registet but no where else. Would this be possibly a cause for concern?. Thank you

If their job requires Garda vetting then they have to declare all names used and everywhere they lived. If they didn't do that then there could be an issue. You may have a suspicion about why a person choose to use a different version of their name but it would be important to have proof that this is reason before saying or doing anything that could be seen as taking away their good name.

The Teaching Council website advises that a teacher may well be registered under a different name from that you know them by so if you don't find the name of a person who is teaching you cannot assume that they are not registered.
