Asbestos roof tile removal disposal?

I'm a bit intrigued as to how asbestos cement roof tiles are supposed to be handled or even if they are dangerous?

I've been watching some being removed from a roof and all the good ones are being stacked on a flat bed truck and the broken ones thrown on the ground. Operators are wearing protective coveralls and have masks but not always using them.

My assumption was the material should be bagged at source and not driven down the road on an open truck back.

I'm not really that bothered (wind is blowing away from our house) but its interesting to note I know the work is supposed to start next week yet has started today when the contractor knows the clients are abroad on holiday.

Client is paying extra for asbestos removal.

    Report to the HSA.

They are responsible for the safe removal and storage and packing of asbestos.
The local authority is responsible for the registration of the companies that actually dispose of the material.

Not further discussion required. For the greater good report this to the HSA. you don't know who's health is unknowingly affected by these a illegal actions.

And take photos as proof if they are finished by the time the HSA arrive.

tbh I haven't decided what to do for the best?

I've a few photographs taken which are a good indication as to how the work proceeded and will see tomorrow what state the site is left in. If its all clean and tidy with no broken tiles left around then I'll just let the client know what went on and leave it to them to decide. If its a mess with broken tiles then I'll be in a different frame of mind.

Sounds like the lawn will be full of small bits of asbestos waste. Not what you want to be hitting with lawn mower blades and making airborne.
On the flip side, the property owner will likely come under fire for full clean up.
Probably best to contact them first and tell them what is happening.
Would it be possible that they decided to cheap out on the work and went with this dodgy contractor while at the same time lying low themselves.

There were other considerations I didn't go into just to keep it simple but the areas that are potentially contaminated will be buried under a meter of hardcore and unlikely to be disturbed again. Clean up by this morning was also good with no sign of the broken slates site was spotless so I'm just going to advise my neighbors to get some proof that the asbestos was disposed of safely in an approved way which I'm sure if it has been done will have a mass of paperwork as proof.

I didn't see everything that occurred and for all I know all the offending material was wrapped before it left site but it didn't look that way when I saw on the back of a truck.

I'm sure there are economies of scale bit ~700€ 1ton double bag disposal in cork city.

Just in case anyone isn't clear there is still the cost of removing the asbestos containing material safely and transporting it to the disposal site.

Asbestos tiles roofing etc is night and day safer than asbestos fibre insulation eg from boilers, old industrial pipe insulation.
