Jumpin' Jimny

I'm baffled by this one and determined to figure out what's happening.

In short I have a Jimny which every so often gives a bit of a jump. Better description I suppose is that it pulls off smoothly, revs away fine but when it hits around 3K revs it sort of stalls out for a second - the rev counter dips to nothing and kicks back up to 3K again in a split second resulting in this jump. If it's out of gear or clutch is held in it doesn't seem to do it, and I think it's worse when it goes over bumpy sections of road (but it can do it on flat as well)

To me that seems like leads or a loose plug but I've checked those and all seem fine. Thought maybe it was clutch related but then that would do the opposite - ie the rev counter would fly up for a second, not down.

Seems to be worse when the car is cold and doesn't always happen (typically it didn't when it was in at mechanic the last time) I'll take it in to a mechanic again but kind of wanted to figure out what it was myself first.

    Any ideas?

If car is in motion and in gear at 3k rpm, it can't just go down to 0rpm like that.

I would put my first bet on loose electrical connection (maybe battery or fuse or alternator) which is causing complete cut off electricity, which causes digital rev counter to go down to 0rpm, as well as engine loosing ignition for that moment which is causing a jump you describe.

Does lights go off as well during that jumps?

Coil packs? What year Jimny? There were two types of engine fitted to them (well three with minor modifications of the second)

Not sure about the lights actually, rarely driven at night but I don't think so, I'll check that tho. Im thinking electrics as well.

    It's 1999

Check your fuse box and relays, I have seen where corrosion has occurred in the fuse box and relays on the drivers side of the engine, the wires were eaten through and connections were only being made by the wires being in the right place.
There were two relays that faced down that had particularly badly corroded terminals from memory.
