Epic NCT emissions fail!

Hi, I took a 06 Nissan Note 1.4 for test yest, they "abandoned" the emissions testing as levels were so high and there was water coming through the exhaust system ! I took this on a p/x a couple of weeks ago and it didn't seem smoky till yesterday.
Anyone know if it was because it was parked up for a bit or did previous owner put something in to camouflage the issue before I got it ?

Some water in the exhaust is normal since water is a byproduct of burning hyrdrocarbons

I doubt NCT stopped the test because of water as they know why it's there.

Post a pic of the fail sheet or write the result down here

Epic thread disappointment. I was expecting a 15 year old car to have gone on a homicidal rampage.

odd how you have a 0.0 lambda reading , is the sensor connected and has it been replaced ?

Odd indeed. I'd also expect the rest of the figures to be a lot worse than they are if it was blowing enough smoke to evacuate the place. :pac:

I'd say the 0.0 lambda is simply because they didn't measure it - note "test aborted".

Thought initially it could be the head gasket gone in it but apart from smoke there aren't any other of the usual obvious signs( oil in water, water in oil)
Gonna see if I can get it plugged in tomorrow and see if anything shows up.

Any ideas what could be causing excessive smoke ?

They abandoned the test due to smoke. The smoke is because its burning something, fuel, oil, water etc...

One of your levels has to be affected. Plugging it in wont tell you anything. You need a cylinder leakdown test to determine whether you've a valve/head/headgasket or piston problem. Book it with a mechanic to get this done.

BTW if it gets worse when hot its most likely a head gasket.

    Good luck !

Reckon that myself but not showing any oil in water or water in oil,( just did an oil change), levels seem to be holding ok.
Think I'll just cut my losses and put an engine in it :-(

Gonna throw a bottle of steelseal into it, if that solves the issue ill know I need an engine, cheaper than getting mechanic to tell me :-)

Tried that still no joy. Gonna look for an engine :-(

Would you not just go to a mechanic with it. Seriously, your just throwing stuff at the car in a hope it will sort it. There is only a limited amount of things this could be.

Mechanic said it needs an engine !
