ESTA & middle name

    Hi,

I just did 5 family ESTA applications on line and didn't enter 2 of the names exactly as they are on the passports. Don't know what I was thinking. I left the middle names out. I know it only asks for first names but some of the passports had middle names & some didn't, silly but I just didn't pay attention.

Will this be a problem? Will I need to do those 2 applications again?

    Thanks.

ESTA does not need middle names

I've never entered my middle name on the ESTA application

Thanks for that goingnowhere, it didn't ask for middle names so I didn't give them. Just want to make sure I was correct in what I was doing.

I've also never used my middle name on ESTA and had no issue. Enjoy!

OP, I'd advise you and your family to drop the middle names from those passports at the next renewal, saves an awful amount of confusion - the name on your passport doesn't exactly match the name on your driving licence (potential problem when renting a car), you lie awake the night before a flight wondering if Ryanair will bounce you because the boarding pass you just printed doesn't have the middle name which is on the passport etc. etc.

Last time I was renewing my passport, I misread one of the fields on the form and put in my middle name. A nice man from the passport office rang me to check if I really wanted my middle name on the new passport (it wasn't on the old one) and advised me to leave it out so I did.

As others have advised, in most cases the middle name doesn't matter but I'd just drop it in future.

Thanks for that, yes, I agree with losing the middle name, I'll tell my parents!!

Doesn't matter, once the first name is on it. My middle name is on my passport and I booked my ESTA and travel with just firstname lastname and had no problems whatsoever.

Same with Ryanair, never once had a problem.

Not too sure i would be taking travel advice from someone with that username :D As others have said, I've also done my esta's without my middle name but it is on my passport. Never been refused.

My husband has his middle name in passport and gives it where it's asked or leaves it out otherwise. Has never caused an issue. It's part of his name, so unless he didn't like it, I don't see the point of dropping names.
