VW RNS 310 traffic updates issue.

Hi,

I have just imported a 2013 VW passat from the UK and the RNS 310 has the European maps so general navigation works fine.

However, there are no traffic updates. Do I need a software update in order to get Irish traffic updates?

Also, from looking at youtube videos it seems the US version of the system allows you to search the street before the town and state.
On my system I must put in the country, town, street and number in that order. This is annoying as sometimes I don't know the Dublin area code when I have a street address. Is there a way to allow the street to be added first and just do a search of the entire database?

Traffic reports aren't active in Ireland so it won't work.

Yeah, the traffic doesn't work in Ireland - thanks to RTE who are the official provider and who we all pay a tax to ...

The search is also crap, however, the nav is really good if and when you get the right destination in.

I don't know about the latest VW Discovery systems but even the higher end RNS 510 does not receive traffic updates. It's got something to do with licensing of DCC encrypted signal broadcasts - that VW don't support/pay for (i think).

Whenever I spin up the north, the system kicks in and lights up the lots of info so I know it works. Just not here.

Incidentally, test drove a new BMW recently and their Navigation pro seemed to receive all traffic updates.

I found Google maps with traffic turned on is way better anyway.
