    Hi All,

I received email yesterday from VF that they will increase price for my bb by 7 euro. Is this increase for all VF customers or only me?

Its a late application of OpenEirs WS price increase. Its all customers on standalone packages with all DSL providers not just vodafone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭domeld

But 7 Euro, bb is getting bit expensive, i know, OpenEir need to get money back for all investments made recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

It only matches what those with a phone were paying. The phone costs OpenEir next to nothing but the copper incurs most of their costs. By dropping the phone you were receiving a large discount when OpenEir had the same OPEX to pay. This brings it back into line.

I know it shouldn't affect their FTTH prices but wondering have they increased those also? If not it would certainly be a pretty compelling reason for them to get their customers of Eir and onto FTTH where available.

Maybe Vodafone are just building up a war chest for when they make a move for Liberty Global.
For those that think the Three takeover of O2 hurt customers, wait till the above happens.
Can't wait to see how fast comreg rolls over again..

Vodafone were the cheapest but Pure Telecom seem to have tweaked their prices again... rather confusingly too

"Purely Broadband"... which is their VDSL product is €44/m
However, you can manually build a VDSL package on their site for €41.50/m
ADSL1 (up to 8Mbps) is available from them for €40.50/m

Either way, if I get the increase from Vodafone I'm cancelling my VDSL connection altogether. €35 was really as much as I was willing to pay for just broadband

EDIT: Digiweb are in at €39.95 for unlimited broadband (VDSL or DSL) and off-peak UK/IE calls. They've a ~€50 activation fee though

Mine moved recently from €35 to €38, am I going to get another €7 added now?

I have received no letter or email about it?

Same boat as yourself. I gather they're contacting affected customers up to the 13th of this month

If only I had some other option, but I don't.

Here is the notification on their site, might help figure out who is affected, looks like most will.

"From the 1st November 2016 we will be implementing price increases to our older Vodafone Home plans. Prices will increase by €5-€7 and will be reflected in customers’ November bills. These price increases are as a result of the increased costs of providing the service to customers.
We will contact all affected customers by letter or email before the 13th October 2016, informing them of the price increase relevant to their plan. Following receipt of this notice, customers may change or cancel their contract within 30 days, without penalty, by dialling 1907
Affected customers can continue on their existing, newly priced plans, exit their contracts, or move to one of our new plans offering unlimited fibre broadband with or without calls.
Customers who signed up to Vodafone Home price plans between May 1st 2016 and November 1st 2016 will not be affected by these price changes.
Customers on legacy plans who sign up to new Vodafone Home plans before the 1st of November 2016 will not be impacted by the price changes.
Customers who are on TV price plans or Lightspeed Broadband price plans will be excluded from any price changes."

If anyone is looking at digiweb - this is on their site

    Unlimited Data

Unlimited Data: Digiweb operates an uncongested network and 350GB on this plan is considered fair use in any 30 day period prior to the 1st of the month. We do not throttle or cap service, however, if a customer exceeds the stated fair usage allowance for data on more than 2 occasions in any 90 day period, then Digiweb reserve the right to terminate or suspend the customer’s service. Digiweb will proactively contact customers in advance of any suspension or termination of service.

If these prices are up to date, magnet are offering 24mb for €30. https://switcher.ie/broadband/compare/fibre-optic-broadband/#/bundle_type=broadband_only&sort_by=monthly_cost&region_id=7&place_id=982

They're not legacy plans being affected though.
    They're the current price plans.
It says Customers on legacy plans who sign up to new Vodafone Home plans before the 1st of November 2016 will not be impacted by the price changes.
I checked the site and there isn't any new plans to sign up to.
The so called "legacy plans " is all they currently have.
What's said there makes no sense.

I also received email detailing €5 change in contract. Operational increases were outlined as reason to offer.
    we continue to offer:
    1,"Speed
We’ll give you the fastest fibre broadband speed available on our network. If fibre isn’t in your area yet, we’ll let you know when it is available.

    2.Reliable Network
With Vodafone you can always count on the reliability of our network. With the roll out of our LightSpeed Broadband, you can enjoy access to Ireland’s newest and most powerful fibre broadband network.

    3.Value
We have a range of great value and worry free plans to suit everyone, and were recently named the provider of Best Value Home Broadband in the 2016 Switcher Broadband Awards."

I don't have 1, will never be in area to get 2 and seeing as I am already paying for price of 1 without getting it I'm not getting 3.

Explain it to a simpleton like myself.
    Cheers

Vodafone use Eir's wholesale network (OpenEir). OpenEir significantly increased their wholesale prices, which leaves Vodafone little choice but to pass on those price increases.

This effects all companies who use OpenEir's network, Vodafone, Sky, Digiweb, Magnet, etc.

Some people might suggest Eir are putting up the prices by so much in order to pay for the "free" EirSport/Setanta they are giving their customers. Has to be paid for somehow after all

Eir said prices of pots service shouldn't go up as line rental dropped so shouldn't VF 45 euro service stayed same? Pure put up bb only to 44 but pots included service remained same so assume they're not going up. Does that mean VF are hiking prices of some plans for no reason?? Really thinking of chancing 41.50 plan by PURE

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Vodafone stopped using pots, they moved to VOIP. So nearly all their plans went up when it would be more like half with the rest of the operators.

I'm surprised at you putting it like that BK, its quite misleading.

    See this post.

OpenEir balanced the non pots and pots RAPS, and it was only a delta of €3.50. The pricing structure was frankly stupid and has been fixed.

I received an e-mail last week. Home Broadband plan increasing by €7/month from €38/month.

New Simply Broadband plan is €40 for 18 month contract, so €5 cheaper, which is obviously what they want me to do. Switched this morning. Everything else stays the same, speed 15Mbps, download limit 1TB/month.

Vodafone guy said I will be switched to fibre once our exchange is upgraded which is imminent according to local Eir engineer. The new wall-plate with fibre connection will also be installed free of charge in order to switch to fibre. He said they will be sending me their latest fibre enabled modem free ahead of fibre switch to use as it will do ADSL also.

I had a look at other Vodafone and Eir packages, and the prices are CRAZY! €70, €90, €110/month!!! Are they nuts?|That's €720/year more and will buy a lot of sweets.

Digiweb is €39.95 for similar, but you need to pay for new modem so you are out €50. Better the devil you know...

I recieved email from Vodafone saying my current plan (Home Essentials) incresing from 45 to 50 pm.
My line can only handle 5mb download, we were promised Fibre in our area (Citywest) over two years ago. I cant justify paying 50 per month for 5mb broadband.
This is the last straw for me so I'm switching. Best I see in my area (I can only access broadband through phoneline) are Sky who are offering 35 per month for exisitng sky TV customers (12 month Contract, goes up to 45pm after).

Hmm, just off the phone with Vodafone. Said I'd like to sign up to the new 'Simply Broadband' plan at €40. Put me on hold and then says he can offer me a deal to stay on my current plan of €38 (SABB) if I renew for another 18 months. I queried if that will have a price increase after X months but he said if it does, I'll be given the option to cancel. I took the new contract but someone is going to call me back within 48 hours confirming it & going through it. I'm guessing I'll find out then if it does involve any sneaky increases. Will update in a few days.

if it does involve any sneaky increases.

Make sure you get the contract in writing (hard copy in the post and / or email format that can't be altered eg PDF or similar), AFAIK they are obliged to do this even for rollover / upgrade contracts.

    This is from Comreg site:

"Contract must be in a durable form

An off-premises or distance contract must be provided to the customer in a durable medium and must be legible and in plain intelligible language. A durable medium is defined as any medium, including paper and e-mail which enables the customer to store the information addressed personally to them so that they may access it at a future time. It also must allow for the unchanged reproduction of the stored information.

Where a customer receives a rollover contract or an upgrade to their existing contract, this contract must also be provided to the customer in a durable form and contain all the information necessary regarding their rights."

I rang and guy confirmed I would be staying on 38 by extending it by 18 months (simply bb fibre). I asked numerous times if my price remains at €38 and he confirmed. If price does increase, comreg will be hearing about it as who the hell extends their contract by 18 months whilst accepting a price increase. Keep us informed how you get on Blue Blue

I have the same on mine

I got the same (mail saying it was going up 7).
I rang them and said I was going elsewhere - lo and behold, they agreed to keep me on current price if I stayed for another 18 months (which I have no problem with)
Somone was supposed to call me back (that was 8 days ago). So I rang them again "someone will ring you tomorrow" - never did
Just rang them there - the story has changed. They now say they will offer 40 for first 12 months and then 45 after that. So the story changed overnight. Plus "someone will ring you back" - they haven't
I suspect they are stalling s that the 30 days expires and then you are locked in anyway. I told them if I don't hear from them by tomorrow I'm cancelling (which I will).
The odd hike of a couple euro - ok inconvenient - but 7!
And I don't buy it that Eir increased the wholesale price and they are "obliged" to pass it on. They aren't obliged at all, they could swallow the difference and at least honour the original contracts people signed (I'm 1 year into an 18 month one). This is a big multinational with plenty of financial clout.
For the guys above, I wouldn't hold out much hope they will call you back, get on to them

I got onto live chat and agent confirmed I stay on 38 as I extended my contract. In fairness I got a call back from a nice lady but had got my info already on live chat.

I'm not in a contract with them at present, as they annoyed me so much by putting though a price increase when I was in an 18 month contract with them.

They then rang me endlessly looking for me to re-enter a contract. Super friendly guy who quickly got ratty when I started probing the details of his sales pitch.

Like others, now I have received a letter advising me that the price is going up €7 per month. I'm Simply Broadband (ie with no phone). €84 a year is a hell of an increase to be pushing through.

The letter tells me that I have the option to cancel due to the "contract" change. They are really abusing the definition of the term contract.

Is it worthwhile calling them to see whether I can do better than €45?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Yes, probably to extend your contract and locking you in. Hwever you also lock in a price (for now)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭fortis

@ TheDriver, did Vodafone actually confirm with you (via a contract) that you are signed up to the new deal? I wouldn't be so hopeful that because you got a call back from a nice lady that they are doing squat on their side other than stalling so your 30 day period to leave expires.
I have had numerous engagements with them at this point, they have basically lied directly to me on a few occasions (including in an actual Vodafone store), to the point where finally I contacted Comreg, who told me to raise an official complaint with them (which I eventually managed to do after severe perseverance on the phone, they were trying to fob me off at that point also), so we see what happens now, I'm not hopeful of much. Very disappointing behavior from a large organisation, Comreg didn't seem very surprised mind.
It's a matter of principle now and not money per se.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I have it in writing on live chat. They said they emailed it (which I didn't get) and they'd email it again (which I stil haven't gotten). However I have it in writing that my price will not change so thats enough for me if the truth changes. I didn't sign up to a new deal but rather extended my contract for no increase in price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭fortis

That's not enough (in writing in live chat), you need a proper contract either mailed or sent to you.
They have an obligation to do this, if they don't then it's your word against theirs.
I got a call back from a account manager in Dublin today (first direct contact I have had from Vodafone Ireland), he said he would send out a 12 months contract @40 per month today. I have his name and contact details. SO these will be going to the regulator also if it doesn't happen (I have logged all correspondence with them).
I still don't trust that they will do it until I actually see it. regardless the ball is in their court now as the case goes to comreg if they don't comply. The fact they rang back directly from the office would suggest they don't like this as an outcome, as I guess that every complaint with the regulator has to be followed up and accounted for.
I'd suggest you get in touch and escalate, I was also told that I would be emailed. Funnily enough it never arrived (the service announcement for the increase arrived however!). I don't trust them as far as I would throw them!
