Thoughts on this Vintage Omega Constellation?

    Hi guys,

I was hoping to get some thoughts on this please. I'm a big fan of the 50's / 60's Classic Omega Dress watches and have been keeping an eye out for a black dial Constellation or De Ville without much success. Most (all?) of these you see offered nowadays are redials I believe?

Can I get the move experienced members of this boards take on this offering off eBay?

Boxes it ticks for me are circa €1k, black dial with crosshair, no date, seller has 100% feedback.

Ps I am not buying that bracelet with it, 1st because it is awful and too large for the case and 2nd because I think these look best on a nice black croc skin strap.

I would want to see pictures of the movement to be honest.
And some of those front loader watches can be tricky to get serviced...but this one is ok I think.
Watch looks pristine, polished to within an ounce of its life.
Dial looks very clean, almost too good to be true. A re-dial perhaps?

And a final point - not overly important - but the sales language he uses is way over the top!
    Check out this BS!!
This is a beautiful and legendary Stainless Steel Omega Seamaster DE VILLE Black Crosshair Dial Automatic Watch with Stainless Steel Omega Bracelet from c. 1961 – the real sign of excellence, prestige and luxury back in the era.

I'm not an Omega expert, but I'd be very slow to pay that sort of money for a vintage one. Do a search of completed listings to get an idea of values.

I'd avoid TBH. It's been ""restored" that is it's a redial. One done to tie into the Mad Men popularity. Originally it would have been a pale dial. Redials are almost always a no no.

Last time I looked at these back in 2013 on eBay they were going for about €400-600. The current price seems extraordinarily steep.

Definitely a redial but almost impossible to find a black dial in good nick for reasonable money these days it seems.

...and yes, his sales patter is cringey!

Out of interest why? Likely to have problems/issues or just not authentic?

They are thin enough on the ground and prices I have seen are around the 1k mark - maybe smaller sizes coming back into fashion?

Authenticity and resale pretty much AJ. The dial is the face of the watch, the thing you view every time you look to check the time or look at the watch. Not having an original really devalues the watch in collecting terms. If someone doesn't care about that then great, it can make for much cheaper watches(not in this case though).

It wasn't always so mind you. "Cleaning" watch dials was seen as a service for your life time watch and I can remember adverts for it. People were far less precious. As were jewellers even companies.
