Hey guys, a few of my friends and I want to sign up to an Olympic distance race outside of Ireland next year and make a bit of a weekend out of it. Anyone have any experience / recommend any in particular? Fitness in the group would be good and early in the year would probably work best but interested to hear about events generally. Priority is for a good well run race but with a bit of a night out afterwards or the next day!! Of course! Thanks a million

Used to be an Olympic event at the Lisbon triathlon in early May, but it is a Challenge event from 2017 so it may or may not be retained. Good event, good location, and a good spot to get some nightlife after.

Theres also Tri 122 who do a slightly odd distance but one is 1km swim, 50km bike and 10km run which is similar to Olympic distance

I've Done the lough Cutra Triathlon with this crowd and find them well organised. They do a number of races in the UK and one in France.

They also have a volunteer scheme where you get £80 credit for 1 days marshaling. So you could volunteer for lough Cutra and then race free in the UK/France.

Thanks for the replies. All really useful information. I actually did the Lough Cutra Tri this year and it was really good. I'll take a look at the other ones they are putting on. The Lisbon one is looking interesting. Challenge seem to be running it on Sunday 7 May.

Italy's longest running and biggest Olympic distance triathlon is held in Bardolino on Lake Garda in June every year. Take a look at www.triathlonbardolino.it
