Weird question but do you pick the person who does the ceremony or is it random?
Any recommendations if you do get to pick someone?

Also what are these ceremonies like? I have only ever been to church weddings.

I just like the idea of us getting married in the hotel & having the reception in the same place etc.

There are more than one type of civil ceremoney. If you went down the humanist/spiritualist route for example, you would hire your own celebrant.

If you're just doing the legal minimum in a registry office, I'd say you just get who the HSE give you.

Humanist ceremonies are not considered Civil ceremonies, they're categorised with religious ceremonies AFAIK

I'm talking about the HSE one- not Humanist.
I really need to look both up. I'm utterly clueless.

You can request a HSE official but it depends on if they are available that day.

Ok. Maybe I am confusing Humanist & HSE oops.
It's Humanist where you pick your celebrant.
    Sorry guys!

Any recommendations would really be appreciated ;)

HSE are Monday to Friday (according to the website).

Humanist can perform ceremonies any day of the week in a HSE approved venue.

Humanists are extremely hard to get on Saturdays, the wait list is very long, so while you'll be able to choose your own, you may not have a choice.

From what I understand of there's only a certain number (1 in some regions) of HSE solemnisers so you may not have choice there either.
