blisters on ball of foot

    Looking for some advice.
I've always had problems with blisters on the bottom of my feet when running long miles but the last few months I've been getting really bad blisters on the ball of my left foot. Their not your typical blister but more like a round blood blister right under it. I haven't changed runner brand so I had been thinking it's not the shoes but now I'm unsure. Been an Asics GT2000 or previous revision with 5 or 6 years. Mileage is also similar to last few years as well (45 - 60 miles a week), so not sure what it is. I've taken a few weeks off running when it got very bad in the summer but it reappeared again once I started doing long runs again. Previously, I've tried vaseline on them, Body Glide, Gel plasters (which worked for a number of years) but once that didn't help I started trying taping them but no success either. Just wondering if anyone on here had a similar problem and managed to get a fix. Also wondering if the GT series maybe doesn't have enough cushioning in that area, maybe they have reduced it over years. Been reading up on Hoka's and wondering people's thoughts on them as well. Maybe it's time I changed brand to see if that could help. Any advise would be great

I once had a shoe that caused me blisters, and that happened to be an Asics as well, though a different shoe. When I finally threw out the insoles that had come with it and replaced them with different ones the problem disappeared immediately.

I would try a different shoe, as well as a different brand. Hokas are very different kind of shoes altogether, I'd try a less radical step first (one from Saucony, New Balance, Adidas, Nike, Mizuno ....)

    Thanks Thomas.
I did try changing maybe 2 years ago and experimented with Mizuna Wave Inspire and back in 2010 I had a few months in Adidas Adistar Salvation but for some reason I just didn't like either and ended up back with Asics both times. I'm thinking it's likely that the problem is in the way my foot is striking the ground and whether it's linked or not I do tend to wear a hole out in the top of the majority of my runners above big toe. I'm probably looking for a runner to compensate for what I'm doing badly !! Might well be worth looking at Saucony and seeing what's out there though as I never really looked at those.
