The spawn of the Devil that is Gmail. Can anyone tell me how I get the mofo off my phone?! It's signed in on the phone. I can't delete it 'cos somebody else uses it like but how do I at least even sign out of the Godforsaken thing? I nearly deleted it there and Thank Christ for small mercies that a message popped up that I would be deleting x and y number of files or I'd never have realized I'd be deleting the whole shagging lot.:o All their Emails and email-conversations and everything. Thank God! So with that crisis averted, how do I at least sign out of this Gmail Account on my phone?! T.i.a.

I'm guessing what the poster means is you have a friend or someother person signed into gmail on your phone? It is indeed difficult to sign out. I'll just have a quick look at mine for you now as i had to try sign out recently..

Ok i looked and then had a quick google to confirm, you either remove the app or make up a dummy address to replace said log in.. The person who owns the account really shouldn't lose anything but perhaps check with them first.

One account to rule them all. Google is a nightmare. You can go to you android phones settings/accounts and you will have the google account in there. You can add accounts or delete accounts, possibly delete you friends account if its there. Should not remove friends data as this is usually linked to google account, but don't hold me to that.

Since google took the liberty of linking all accounts in there data-mine of user data a few years ago, they caused no end to the amount of damage they have done to the integrity of the data they keep. I had several google services, but mainly used and stayed logged into YouTube for convenience. A few years back, a friends computer was down and he needed to log into his gmail for tickets or something. Yes you can use my computer, no harm in that I said. Well, my computer was logged into YouTube with my non gmail account, he logged in with his details to gmail, and bang, my youtube account is now linked to his gmail account. His gmail address is now set as the primary contact address for all my google services. Several hours of research later I discover that once an email is set as the primary, it cannot be changed or removed or updated. It is forever stuck. You can add additional emails, but none can replace the primary.

Best advice I can give but does not really help your current situation is to abandon the gmail app for emails and get a third party email app that allows more control of your accounts. I currently use K9 on android, but there may be better and more up to date apps available.

I'm sorry OP but your post is confusing, and erratic, you sound like you wrote it during a cocaine binge.

Its not the Gmail app that's the problem, rather the fact you've let someone else sign into their Google account on your phone. You should be able to remove the account in phone settings.

Agreed , your question seems very reasonable and doesn't deserve an attack

You cant sign out of it unless you use a different account on the phone.

Could you not chance your account settings to no sync your email?
Not exactly signing out, but would stop the mail getting to the phone.

    (sorry if I miss understood).

Use a dummy account as your Main phone account. Keep your email sav secondary. Then it won't combine them.
