    Hi

I was doing a Job Bridge internship at a new and not too successful company. After I finished up I stayed in touch and ran the occasional event for the employer. She called me today saying she had to leave the business due to poor health and that the offer is there for me to take over from January.

The only problem is I do not have a cent to my name to get started, after been unemployed for a while now bills have pilled up and my credit history will not allow me to get a loan.

Can I apply for the BTWEA ? or does that apply to only new businesses ?

I feel that inside a year or two it could be really successful just the few quid to keep me ticking over is vital

You should definitely apply but nobody here can tell you if your application will be successful.

This is as genuine and hard-working as it gets. I really really hope you get financial aid somewhere from someone. I guess first port of call would be Citizen's Information and see can they come up with anything that would be a help. Try and venture down as many avenues as you can. Best of luck. I wonder would M.A.B.S. be able to point you in the right direction? But I'm not too sure what it is exactly they do or if they can help a Self-Employed person....

I applied for the btwea in May and received it in the middle of September, this was after having a business plan drawn up and also after completing a 6 month start your own business course.
Just giving you a bit of information on how slow the wheels turned for me when applying for it.
Best of luck with it either way

Mabs will be of no real use. The OP should contact his /her local Enterprise Board, or the local Leader company. These would give far more assistance to commercial start-ups than the likes of MABS.

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some info. I am currently in reciept of one parent family payment and carers allowance, but i am looking at the btwea. Do i need to be off carers allowance to fall eligible for this? I know i am entitled to work up to 15 hours each week while in reciept of the payment. Any help or advice would be greatful. Cheers

No you would have to sign off Carers in order to get BTWEA
Also you would be getting BTWEA instead of OPFP, not as well.
