When will my penalty points be removed?

Back in september 2013 I got 2 penalty points that should be coming off this year. However I got another 3 penalty points last month which brings my total to 5 points
Will the initial 2 from 2013 come off this year or will they stay on seeing as I got another 3 this year?

You'll get a letter from the RSA when the points have expired. Getting new points doesn't reset the clock on the original ones they only last 3 years.

So basically all 12 penalty points to disqualify you from driving would have to all be gotten in the space of 3 years?

    Correct yes.

They're removed 3 years after they're applied, rather than 3 years after you got caught.

How long does it take for them to send you the points in the post? I think I got caught today by a speed camera van :(

Can be a few weeks for the notice, then you post it back, then another few weeks for the points to be applied.

Three weeks after I got the notice. Paid the fine and a week after that I had my lovely 3 points. It's a grand system.

I got caught recently on a Monday doing 90km in an 80km zone
and received the fixed penalty notice in the post 4 days later ie.friday:mad:

Penalty points arrived in post 5 days after i paid the fine:mad:

Anytime I ever thought I was done by the speed camera vans, I wasn't. They were always kindly sent in the post when I didn't even realise I'd been caught.

I would't worry about it until they land on your hall floor. It mightn't even happen.

    Sorry meant for Headshot.

Do the cameras send in pictures of the driver too? Like they do in other countries. What if you are driving a shared vehicle where two or more drivers are frequently driving the vehicle?

What if someone clones your plates and the vehicle is driving around the neighbourhood in which you live? Without a headshot photograph, the victim of cloning will have no choice but to pay the fine and take the points if they have no evidence of where they were that day, for example if they were just at home that day watching telly.

They send a picture of the reg plate, you can request the full picture. They don't send the full picture by default as relationships broke down when a partner opened the letter and the bit on the side was in the vehicle.
