Flat Roof Maintenance

    Hi all,

Appreciate some advice on flat roof maintenance. We have no leaks.

    - as you can see, our sink/shower drains onto the flat roof. Done before we moved in and won't be able to change.

    - i can put a pipe from here to the downpipe but I'm worried about putting anything like a brick on the flat roof which would brace the pipe. Is there such things are flat rood braces?

    - The standing water remains if it rains and we haven't used upstairs. There is a dip there and there are dip across the flat roof in a few places. Is there some self-levelling compound I can put on top of the flat roof.

    - lastly, some areas (particularly around the galleys) feel hollow underneath. I'm worried that they'll crack. Any advice on this?

    Thanks all.

It looks like an asphalt roof, a few years old aswell, I'd recommend you put a layer of 4mm torch on felt over it, where the dips are can be built up with felt before the top layer is done.

Most flat roofs hold water, I'd add onto the waste pipe and run it off the roof, there's no brackets to go into a flat roof, you could cut the waste back closer to the wall, put a 90 degree angle fitting and a length of pipe and bracket it onto the wall.

    Hey
Really appreciate the reply and advice.

    Yes, I think it's 1985.

Just to check, you suggest running the waste pipe directly to off the roof (to the downpipe). I was planning to do that but thought the pipe would be unsecured and suspended and would snap off with the wind.

Any ballpark idea of re torch on felt cost? Is it a DIY job - I'd be fairly handy but not stupid. If it's beyond I won't mess around.

    Thanks again.

For the pipe bracket it to the wall, use something like these:

    ebay.co.uk/itm/40mm-pushfit-solvent-weld-waste-pipe-clip-bracket-check-our-other-listings-/111875197770

Taking a guess at your roof from the pics you'll need 2 X 10M rolls of 4mm felt, a bottle of gas=€50+€50+€30=€130

    A good torch.

Torch on felt is handy if you know what your doing, your probably better off giving somebody €100 to do it properly.

You could do it yourself but you could heat it too much or too little, also you need to know where to start, it needs to be set out to go with the fall, the laps should have a bleed of bitumen or water can get under the lap, when it turns to ice during the winter it expands a little and gradually ends up lifting the lap, breaking the seal.
