Currently feeding my ram meal, he has plenty of good grass. 3 weeks out from mating is the meal feeding necessary and would taking meal away from him hamper his performance? BCS in between 3.5-4.

Better taking it away now than when he is let off with the ewes, or better still wind it down slowly so he doesnt get a shock to the system

i would like my rams to be over CS 4 at mating (and they still come back CS 3-), also the extra protein in the ration helps fertility and semen production.

Very sore on a ram being fed Meal all summer then getting grass for a month chasing ewes,I'd stop the meal soon if you want him for next year

Maybe if he was on a high level of meal feeding but we used to sell ram lambs here and they'd be getting 400grs/day up till they went out with ewes with no ill effects.
Those rams were fit to eat 1.5 - 2kgs/day through a creep feeder up to eight weeks before sale. But we'd gradually reduce them down to 400grs/day at sale time and they went on to work many seasons
