I'm in the exact same situation as you. I ordered sky today and yes you do need to give 30 days notice to virgin. I had to send a mail with account details to cancel[at]virginmedia.ie

Virgin have the best broadband on the market. They'll offer you half price for 6 months if you cancel. Sky charge an extra 15 euro for HD and 80 to install

I ordered Sky first and then got on to VM. Sky give you a choice of installation date so you can get it pretty close to the 30 day notice period if you like. I chose to get the sky in as soon as possible, which is next Friday.

I got the original bundle TV and HD box sets. For 33.60 a month for 12 months. No broadband but they quoted me 64.50 for the fibre unlimited with the aforementioned TV package. I would recommend going into a sky store in person. I got a better deal than over the phone.
