Saw on the Sligo Tidy Towns Facebook page that the building that has the Yeats mural on it is being demolished tomorrow due to health and safety grounds.

They are hoping to get the mural replicated on another building in town.

Such a pity that it has to go! If I was the artist who done that, I would be so heartbroken!

Well being philosophical about it, art destruction can be art as well. If it evokes emotion, awareness, a sense of value and loss and appreciation of art itself.

I believe Sligo tidy towns, along with the council are committed to getting the work recreated on another building, there's plenty of buildings in Sligo, so while it's disappointing, it's great at the same time to see that people are behind the idea of bringing it back, and recognise what the murals of Sligo now add to the identity of the town.
