I seem to be having problems finding an insurer on a 1995 BMW. I have over 8 years no claims and am the only driver. Can anyone help?

Could I use classic car insurance or do I need it to be a second car? Anyone?

Hi, there's a boards user called Unkel who's posted about similar, I'm sure he wouldn't mind you PMing him to ask his advice. As far as I can tell, you should be ok as long as you're not driving a classic 'jap'.

I have a 16 year old BMW 318i saloon on classic insurance. Not collectable by any standard. Not specialist and certainly not high performance. And I do NOT have a separately insured daily driver...

    I am over 25 though tongue.png

Bit of an update. First Ireland will no longer do classic insurance on cars over 15 years old. Only for cars over 20 years old. Unless you are an existing classic car insurance customer. It's not their fault, they're only a broker

Autoline do insure cars over 15 years old as a classic, but they seem to charge you full insurance rates. As in €590 for a '00 BMW Z3 for a mature gentleman with full NCB who already has normal insurance on his daily car. That's not great...

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    It's looking impossible right now.

I'm starting to wonder, could insurers be brought to court for causing unnecessary pollution? The fact that many flat out refuse to insure perfectly functional, NCT'd 15 years old cars (some even refuse anything that's 10 and older) is bound to cause a lot of those perfectly useable cars to hit the scrapyard - and each one is 1.5 tonnes of metal, plastics, composites and toxic fluids needing to be disposed of...maybe the "greens" want to take a look at this? Or is it just "CO2"?

It's 8 years now for FBD :pac: They're holding out on finding that one single unicorn customer who never drives anywhere but will pay them millions in a premium.

Every old dirty petrol scrapped is another clean diesel on the road, don't ya know? The Greens are only ecstatic/beatific I'd say.

I think you should maybe try and take a case.

I'll humour you. On what vehicle will the OP take out cover on which will give him the driving of other cars extension? (the correct technical name for what you call "on 3rd party")

No it doesn't. You may have a disc, but you won't have insurance. You can't insure something you don't own, or suffer loss if it's destroyed.
Making a false declaration to the insurance company, that you own another car, also invalidates any policy.

    Contact the insurance ombudsman.

This is one reason why our insurance premiums are so high when it all goes wrong

I managed to get a decent enough quote but am going to see if I get anything cheaper. Can't believe some of the prices though.

Seen 93 316?touring covered today.. 750 average but policy holder and driver both in '50's.

The mis-use of the TP D.O.C extension results in 3 in 5 claims being turned down and poor innocent person crashed into, is left out of pocket.
If you're mature enough to buy a car then insure it correctly as u'd only be fooling yourself that you're covered.
