Noticed Starbucks has been closed since Monday, it's now Friday
A sign on the door says ''due to a burst pipe''

Apparently they didn't have X,Y,Z to actually be able to open the shop?

Waterford'll be delighted the amount of begrudgers about the whole thing!

Didn't the council issue them a notice to cease trading as they didn't get proper planning permission for the change of use of the building?

With all their lawyers they must have known they didn't have the correct permission to open but thought the council would not act against them, they have pulled the same stunt several other times around the country. this corporate lawbreaking needs to be stamped out before these companies who have no respect for Ireland or our Laws get used to the situation.

Thanks for the idiotic comment Rebecca...we're all begrudgers and there was no issue raised when starbucks broke the law in Dublin, cork and elsewhere.truly moronic.

i actually wish this fascination Waterford folk have with Starbucks and how much they have ruffled peoples feathers in recent weeks would die.

Its a coffee shop, and Waterford has bigger issues.

There is no fascination, just a few silly comments is all.

They obviously don't know who the correct person is to drop the back hander to.

If they primarily sold coffee and bits for takeaway, then there'd be no issue with planing as it woudl be a "shop". However as a large part of their stores are seated area for customers to sut down and consume on the premises, it requires planning for a type of restaurant use - not sure the exact phrase, by regular retail shop planning does not permit a substantial seated area

isnt there a Starbucks in Dublin thats been forced to close due to planning issues? seems to be a standard tactic for SB, open first, sort planning later

The shop in George's St Waterford was ordered to close by the food safety authority.

considering everything is prepacked it must be to do with general hygeine / plumbing issues rather than any food served.

Official reason below...due to burst pipe seeping foul water into cafe basement.

    http://www.independent.ie/breaking-news/irish-news/starbucks-shop-closed-over-public-health-fears-for-more-than-a-week-35109124.html

A spokeswoman for Entertainment Enterprises Group, which operates the Starbucks chain in Ireland, said the Waterford closure was a result of contaminated water flowing into the shop.

"The problem was with the main drainage pipes," she said.
"There was a rupture of the main pipe in the middle of the road outside our store.

"Water then seeped under the road and pavement into our basement.

"The pipes were repaired and the store is restored to its proper condition. The store reopened yesterday afternoon."

Didn't look like the council fixing that pipe. Was done by a private contractor I think and on a Saturday.
