    Hi,
I am looking for some advice on a proposed career change....maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

I am ACCA qualified and have worked in industry for the past decade. I have only one year's experience in practice at the start of my career.

I am jacking in my job in financial services to take up a business opportunity in a different field that will allow me to work at home for most of the week. However I estimate that this new opportunity will only take up 50-60% of the working week.
To increase my earnings, I am also exploring the possibility of doing tax returns ( rental income and sole traders) for a number of people.....would I need a practice cert to do this?

    Any advice would be appreciated
    Regards
    Niall

Thanks for your reply. Would I be correct in saying that I would have to resign my membership in order to do tax returns?

You would want to check out your institute rules but as long as you dont advertise as an accountant i dont see how you would need a practicing cert. The term accountant is not protected.

viztopia is right, anyone can call themselves an accountant, there's no rules preventing unqualified people advertising accounting services

Members of accounting institutes can't act as accountants to the public without a practing cert.

Non members of accounting institutes don't require any qualifications.
