If i was you ,i would take down any details that might identify you or where you live, they as like anybody else have every right to be on the road should they pay tax and insurance, you might not like it but its the law.

rather than look for laws ,how about a gentle knock on their door and welcoming them to garrydhu estate? and in the course of the next few days visits to just say ,"hey lads/lassies any chance you keep the revs down going in and out?

try to avoid the "your an enemy " route ,as I'm sure that won't work out as well as the "kill it with kindness route"

    last resort is guards..

Traffic corps don't like noisey cars and have db test equipment on board to put these lads in their place by seizing cars.

Was one of the cars a white BMW?

To be honest, as much as I despise those fartcan exhausts, if they're within the legal limit I don't know what could be done...some vehicles emit very audible, penetrating sounds even at idle.

Years ago I had a neighbour who drove an Harley Davidson - it was his only transport, he had no car nor a different bike/scooter. He worked shifts so he often came home in the heat of the night - now anybody who's ever heard an Harley Davidson bike, knows what I'm getting at. Even when he was idling, waiting for the gate to open, the sound was well able to make windows vibrate.

Everywone in the building went up in arms against him, but there wasn't really much that could be done...

that noise I wouldn't mind , it's the cars that have deliberately been made noisy in the mistaken belief that noise = power that I despise.

Get chatting to them, admire there car and ask a few questions about it. Basically let them know your not some badgering oul moany fart. Then ask them can they keep the revs down late at night for the kids sake.

Despite the stereotype, most 'boy racers' are genuine nice people and have respect for everyone, especially if you have respect for them (like any walk of life).
You could also look at the plus side of it, if them lads get to know you and there moving on the road at all hours it's a great neighbourhood watch you have going for yourself.

He could have put a road legal exhaust on.

Most bike exhausts have a removable baffle for track use. On my last bike I couldn't ride it with the baffle out due to the noise whereas a friend with a different bike never used their baffle and it was fine, both where 4 cylinders. Haven't taken the baffle out of the current bike as I assumed it would be loud, big powerful V twin, but another friend has the same engine in their bike and its not loud with the baffle out, they have a different can to me so mine could still be too loud.

You would imagine if this group in particular were in anyway nice or genuine that they would use a bit of common sense and would refrain from making a racket late at night. You shouldn't have to become their friend just to reassure them you're not an old fart looking to get an uninterrupted night's sleep.

Where I grew up, we had a group of guys and girls who loved Harleys. They used roll them down the hill and kick start them at the end of the estate. Never an issue and they all worked very early shifts. Its amazing the consideration some people have and then complete ignorance others to. I'd bet a large sum of money they haven't even thought about the noise and neighbors, few people extend their thought process beyond themselves and its becoming increasingly common e.g. Best place for a conversation? Shop door, middle of corridor or escalator ramp.

    The mind boggles.

In my mind an especially painful circle of hell is reserved for people who choose doorways to talk sh1te in.

Not a whole lot that can be done, the exhausts can be below the legal limit, but still be incredibly piercing or just the right frequency to make windows reverberate. Whatever you do don't go over moaning about it to them, when I was a young fella if we knew we could upset someone, we would end up doing it more.

My bike scrapes by the noise tests when revved up in neutral, but it would probably break the machine if they tested it under acceleration, the woman at the end of my boreen loves it, she stands out in the garden waving with both her hands whenever I pass, but I can't hear what she is saying over the noise of my bike :pac:

Na,white celicia, red banger, light blue mitisbiushi, and some other contraption,, as I write, after 1.10 (after midnight)one woke me,man/woman raring at each other, and of course car revving for a while, then Mr clown takes off ,hope it stops soon, but doubt it

Yep,no intention of going over, was thinking of it,but after I heard them roaring and fighting,I'm contacting Cluid housing Monday morning,we have a fairly pro active housing officer, who might have a word

If the registration plates on a car were to suddenely blow away in the middle of the night I think the police would obliged to confiscate the vehicle

Leave a box of nails poured out on the road. Warn the neighbours and sweep them up in the morning.

Speaking as someone that has in the past had noisy cars and still do albeit not on the road take the sensible approach and don't go in all guns blazing. Most car guys are reasonable and understand and will try keep them quiet if asked nicely. Gobin all guns blazing shouting and roaring likely hood is it will get worst.

There's ppl who one can talk to,and others who simply don't give a damm, these clowns are in the latter, housing association area,24 cluid houses, surround by 75 plus council, plus affordable houses,so being blunt it's rough at times, trying to get out, those in charge put a huge mishmash of ppl here, recipe for disaster, supposed to be one woman,2kids there, but there's at least 5 adults, young twenties, add drink etc to the equation, and of course there's going to be noise, hassle etc,its a small example of bad government, local council planning,my kids are being kept awake at times ,and so its not good enough, sorry for ranting (I've 9 grandkids,so well used to teens etc,but this crap, not fair)

a gardening club to manage pathways etc? somthing to make "everybody" inculded

Your preaching to the choir here, I totally agree with you. I was just replying to jobseeker's question to me that they may not be aware they are keeping people awake with their late night antics.

Unfortunately you're not dealing with rational people so having a civilised conversation with them will probably be a waste of your time and effort. Of course expect the usual bleeding hearts to come along soon who will tell you that you should mind your own business and don't be a busy body.

That's probably it. I do think though, that if the op confronts these individuals in a non-hostile manner. there is more of a chance that they may agree to keep down the revs and have a bit of consideration for the OP. than if he went in with all guns blazing...

Think it's happening a lot, might just be the ways things are now,but coming originally from an area where everyone worked, generally neighbours looked out for each other, maybe I'm just an old fart, but think parts of cork, are gone to hell

I disagree, This is a different generation we're talking about here. social maybe. But I'd be inclined to give them a chance first. Because well, there are some genuine 20 - 29 year olds out there..

But that's just it, times have changed drastically in the last 40 years in this Irish subculture. While I do agree that every county does have it's areas which should be avoided at certain times of night. I don't think everyone's bad. There is still good people out there in this day and age. However from reading some of the comments it seems people are painting this type of person with the same brush. That is exactly why I'd give them a chance first. They may just be genuine... :)
