Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I am a female transferring to DCU for a study abroad semester for spring of this year. According to the website, I will either live in Homestead Apartments or College Park Apartments. I am a little nervous about connecting with people and making friends, since this will be my first time in Europe at all. Also, I am from the USA, which everyone knows is kind of a political fiasco. Does anyone have any tips for making friends or what to join, or any info on the apartments (or really any other tips at all, I'm pretty open to advice)? Finally, any recommendations on things I absolutely must do during my five months in Ireland or in Europe? I definitely want to learn and succeed academically, but I also would like to use my time wisely to appreciate Irish culture. Thank you!

The student accommodation in DCU is on campus and although it's not spectacular it's comfortable.

I wouldn't be too concerned with making friends, there are loads of clubs and societies which you could join (you can probably get info on these on the website) and DCU is a very friendly place.

If you get a weekend free or even a bit longer perhaps take the time to see part of the country, Dublin has it's charms but places like Kerry, Galway and Cork are great and will give you a completely different perspective on Ireland.

You'll be able to fly to places like London and Paris for really cheap too from Dublin so if you have time (without neglecting studies too much of course) it is a great opportunity to see some more of Europe too.

DCU is amazing!!! Do not worry about making friends its almost impossible not to. Join one of the many soc clubs, go to NuBar (campus bar), talk to people in your courses. I spent a semester there as well and had the time of my life. There are balls all the time and NuBar has their own events going on. You will make friends with your flatmates as well. And they have a reception for international students so you can connect with others there. Dublin is my favorite city in the world, and you will have such a wonderful time.
