    Hi

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing high ping times with eircom.

My ping times have gone as high as 1500ms on speedtest.net

It seems to be intermitent, I done a tracert to eircom.ie and I see the following

    Tracing route to eircom.ie [159.134.21.66]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 586 ms 468 ms 543 ms b-ras1.wtd.waterford.eircom.net [159.134.155.9]
    3 880 ms 702 ms 645 ms tenge-5-1-1.pe1.wtd.prp-wtd.eircom.net [86.43.247.109]
    4 720 ms 715 ms 599 ms lag-3.core2.prp.core.eircom.net [86.43.253.96]
    5 * 748 ms 609 ms lag-1.core1.prp.core.eircom.net [86.43.252.49]
    6 617 ms 765 ms 719 ms lag-33.pe1.bbh.bbh-prp.eircom.net [86.43.13.251]
    7 * * * Request timed out.
    8 * 83.71.64.210 reports: Destination net unreachable.

Would appreciate any advice on what to do

    Thanks

I'm on Vodafone and it's like treacle, this past few nights
It's really not acceptable, pinging in the high 1000's and timing out on the web
    Netflix-forget about it

    Only the last few nights

I'd put €100 that you're on a RSU, live out in the sticks yeah? If so, nothing you can do until NGN/NGA rolls around.

I'm in portarlington, outside the town but it's ngn. Had broadband for the last 8 years and never had this before. This has been happening since Tuesday night. Seems to be intermittent,

PAN itself or one of the remotes?

Intermittent problems in the ATM leg usually lead back to radio but if not it could be a BRAS failure. Keep prodding the support desk to ensure they raise it with the NOC.

We're connected to the cabinet at Lough Gate according to the eircom tech that was out today.

    What's NOC?

    Thanks

    NOC = network operations center

    Exchange Code: Unknown (Its PAN)
DSL Enabled: Yes - 24 MB
NGB Enabled: Yes - 24 MB
Fibre Enabled: Yes - 100 MB
    LLU Enabled: No

No reason why their should be problems there. Any reason why you're still on ADSL? Or are you on VDSL and have a static IP?

We're to far out to get VDSL. Max I get is 3MB

ED E, could there be a problem with the DSLAM or something else that could cause this issue?

In theory its anything between you and the BRAS or even the BRAS itself.

On a 3Mb line its most likely you, not the network.

    A. Line causing lots of errors that are then being corrected
    B. Something in your house is downloading or uploading something. Seriously, all it would take is somebody to install dropbox on their phone and "camera upload" would congest your connection for 2-3 wks.

Thanks. I'll try disconnecting everything from the network at home and see if there's any improvements

I noticed the exact same thing a few nights ago. ~700 ping on speedtests to the nearest server.

Moved my PC into the kitchen and connected via ethernet and have had no issues since.

    12Mb FTTC here.

Not related due to first hop latency.
