    Hi All,

I have been given a mac book pro for work and need to find a decent text editor for reading logs, xml and can display different languages like java , c++.

The downside is because its a work laptop I'm restricted to being only able to d/l off the offical apple appstore.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks in advance

Xcode? Probably overkill but I haven't used anything else from the App Store.

Yeah xcode is a bit of overkill as I already have an ide but thanks anyway.

Yeah sublime was recommended to me alright. Is there a free version?I seen a review of it and it was something like 70$.Not sure about installing from usb or whether I should :)

in fairness my previous work laptops never got audited by the company so it might be an option.

Sublime is free as long as you are okay with clicking cancel every now and again. Personally I bought it and find it excellent but that's a different conversation.

If you can install standalone apps it's good.
    From a quick google:

Another idea is to get comfortable with vim/emacs and the usual grep sed awk etc
