Well lads I was wondering would drying off the problem test of high scc cow be a good move? Can I still milk the others into tank? Or would there be antibiotic traces in the rest of the spins?

I've heard of lads do this and get away with it, too risky for me 2bh. I've often just stopped milking a quarter once the mastitis clears up, no tube/sealer at all, until end of the lactation. You see her in the parlour twice a day anyways so will spot if the quarter gets swelled etc.

Seen a fresh calver getting dry cow therapy instead of mastitis tube. Milked three quarters into the tank in the morning and kept all out in the morning.

If it's cell count your worried about you could do this just without the tubes and as Timmaay said just keep an eye on the spin.

You might get away with it through dilution but that's it. If you do a antibiotic test on the other spins they will read off the charts. The four quarters work/soak into each other.

Correct. Never try this. It's not worth the risk.

Did this with an excellent cow last year who had mastitis I couldn't cure she got 6 months dry with the quarter and this year calved down perfect with milk in 4. Don't know if I'd do it for a high scc cow though I would try the organic tubes first. Hurricane I think there called.

If the quarter in buggered you can kill the quarter with iodine probably would need to check it out with a vet . I've seen it done successfully under vetinary supervision , quarter just goes blind after a few day

It works...milk out the quarter after a few days and repeat...dump the milk of course...repeated twice and the quarter dries up and if accidentally cupped in future wil no cause problems..

What do you do with the iodine?

I disagree. I have tested milk from 3 quarters while treating one quarter with antibiotics and it was always clear. Having said that, if I dry a quarter because of SCC, I just use a sealer. Its not worth the risk of antibiotics in the tank. A high proportion will come back 100% in the next lactation.

50ml of straight iodine into the quarter and repeated again after 2 days. Need to treat with anti inflammatory s at the same time. Would not treat more than one quarter on any cow

Do many dry off a bad chronic quarter with this iodine treatment? A vet was telling me about it a few years ago.

How long would you withold milk ftom the good quarters?

My vet says different, the four quarters are individual and you can put a dry tube on one quarter and milk the rest into the tank. I had a problem cow the kept getting mastitis in the same quarter, that's what he advised me to do. In the end i went with his other option, I gave her tylovet injection with tubes and she has been clear since.

Don Crowley Teagasc recommends using a sealer for high scc, if has clots nothing, but stroke some out for week.
Tubes probably good, but people cant recommend it due to risk of accidental milking
