Hi I've been offered an 01 1.5l petrol Nissan Almera. It hasn't been driven since 2011 and but will be sold with a full NCT. It only has 77,000 miles on the clock. I've taken it for a test drive and it seems fine.

i was looking to get something a little more recent, (05 - 06) but I'm seriously considering this. It's going for approx €1000.00

Is there anything I should be looking out for bearing in mind the long time its been idle?

So if the NCT is on the ball than structural corrosion and corroded brake pipes etc aren't a worry.

As well as oil, filters and plugs you'd be looking at brake fluid change, coolant change and even if they pass the NCT the tyres on it are quite likely a tad past their best.

All rubber belts might need replacing too.

Even after passing an NCT the discs could be a bit rough too after 5 years of surface corrosion. €1000 isn't fantastically tempting imo.

So I would need to check that the tyres, fluids, belts, and discs are replaced before purchasing - thanks for that, food for thought

You can be sure they won't be :)
Tyres can be gotten for peanuts with minimal labour cost. You'll pass an NCT with tyres that a quite frankly, brutal.

€1000 for a 2001 Almera? No way would i pay it. You could definitely get a newer car for that.

The timing chains on these early models are prone to stretching, so you might need someone to check the tensioners.
€1000 is far too much, €500 would be more realistic,
you'd get an 06/07 with NCT for about €2000 and FSH
I bought an 06 Almera Hatch two years ago with 70k FSH for 2600

I would agree that it seems a bit on the dear side.
Some of these had problems with timing chains stretching if not looked after.
