Domain ownership issue

I am not sure if this is the correct section to post this in or if it should come under a legal heading. Any advice would be appreciated.

We recently engaged a foreign company to develop a version of our website and agreement was for the domain name to be registered to us and we pay for its purchase. They asked for detailed information during this registration time to insure the domain was registered correctly in our name and although I cant check it believe this to be the case.

The agreement was that they would then receive a commission for all sales through the foreign site. The site was developed although very slowly and with many issues and so for only resulted in one sale. Everything was progressing for a while until my marketing person concerned about how long this was taking asked for an outline of their seo strategy to develop the site with intention to assist them and a little other information to insure they continued to comply with our company ethics.

Anyway to cut a long story short they were unwilling to provide this outline and informed us that to comply they wanted a change in terms to include a retainer. Needless to say our relationship deteriorate and we asked for the site to be removed which it was.

I have asked for a invoice for some expenses and also for the invoice for domain registration but have not received it and a little concerned that they are acting up.

How can I check if I own this domain and get control of the domain name back.

Whats TLD is it (.ie, .com, co.uk?)

And - have you any email documentation supporting the proposed domain agreement?

Try this, obviously replace yourdomainnamehere.com with the real domain name you're checking.

    http://whois.domaintools.com/yourdomainnamehere.com

If it's registered to the other party you could struggle to get any control over it.

There are 2 of them .es and .cat and yes have email proof of the proposed agreement and site was a mirror of mine but in different language.

I found some information but unless I subscribe and pay cant confirm my ownership of domains. I thought this type of information is free.

there's a domain resolution mechanism in every tld registrar

I'm not adding to your workload - but the mechanics are here but its in Spanish! If you can get a translation you can begin the process.

Not preempting the Spanish authorities - I'd say they might be 'sympathetic' given you have the domain elsewhere and you have some documentation.

On another note: do you have access to those sites? can they trade?

Now you've mentioned the TLDs, try:

    and

Thank's guys I filed a report with the .cat site and will see if I get any results.

No they can not trade as we were shipping from here over and I have no intention to use domains at the moment but concerned that I dont have control over them.

I did have access to there wordpress site for invoicing etc but this is totally gone now.
