I bought a new sim, new number but Google won't let me continue until I sign in with an account that was previously synced with the phone. It's my first smartphone and I don't know what to do.
If I ring her and get her email + password, can I sign in, add my own google account and delete her old one or is there some other way around it? Will I always have to keep her a/c open on the phone (she gets FB and IM things all through the night, which wakes me up)

    Thanks.

Factory reset should remove all their details.

We'll keep it simple for you.
    Power off your phone.
Factory Reset SAMSUNG I8262 Galaxy Core
Then press and hold together Home button + Volume Up button + Power button until the phone vibrates.
Hard Reset SAMSUNG I8262 Galaxy Core
After a few seconds you will see little man Android and after that menu recovery.
In the menu choose with Volume buttons "wipe data/factory reset" and select it with Power button.
    Restore SAMSUNG I8262 Galaxy Core
    Next select "yes".
Remove screen password SAMSUNG I8262 Galaxy Core
    After this operation select "reboot".
Remove Screen Lock SAMSUNG I8262 Galaxy Core
    Success!

    WARNING !
Hard Reset will erase all of your data
All described operations you are doing at your own risk.

That's the problem; I get the message "The device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google a/c that was previously synced on this device".

Oh, no wonder you were stumped.

They've activated device protection/anti theft. It means if somebody steals the phone they can track it even after a reset unless the thief is a nerdy one.

The simplest option is to have them sign in/give you the password so you can disable the anti theft feature and remove the account.

Sound ED E, when I access her a/c, do I have to sign in with an a/c of my own or can I just disable hers (if I want to keep the anti-theft measure?)...do I have to sync an a/c of my own?

I think its because they added their device to their google account. They need to remove it. Then reset the phone.

Remove a device from your account
If a device you no longer use is listed (or if you don't recognize the device), you can remove it from your account. To remove devices from your account:

Use your phone's browser to go to myaccount.google.com.
In the "Sign-in & security" section, touch Device activity & notification.
In the "Recently used devices" section, touch Review devices.
Touch the device you want to remove > Remove.

People should do this before they sell the phone.

I had this problem with a second-hand phone I bought online. I had to find a hack that circumvented it that I found online that was specific to my model AND the software version that was installed. So it wasn't a universal workaround. So, you'll have to search for a circumvention method for your specific model of phone, and there may not even exist one for your model.

If you could get the original owner to give you the email and password then you could get into the phone , delete her account and factory reset again. Next time you boot up that message would not appear and you can set-up the phone as normal. The problem with that method is that the previous owner may not be happy to give you their password. Even if she let you have it temporarily, she would have to go to the trouble of changing her password after you used it.

If you live near the person you bought it off, you could give it to her, let her sign in, she deletes her account and factory resets. That would be the easiest way to solve it.

    EDIT:

I've never thought of this method, should work too. Good to know.

I think even if you delete your account on the phone. The phone itself still is still in your devices list on google.

They were talking about it, in last weeks, or the previous weeks "the phone show" podcast. http://stevelitchfield.com/sshow/chat.html

They were suggesting that google used not to block on this setting, but recently they seem to be doing so.
