I am currently with vodafone on regular broadband, speed about 4-5mb. I have tried to connect to fibre and eir and vodafone have said they can't connect as all the ports in the fibre box are full. Yet the connections in the exchange box are not full. How can this be? My neighbour that is literally 50 feet away has vodafone fibre so why can't i get it?

    192 usable ports, you're 193rd to order.

Wait till you see removal vans in the locality and order again with your fingers crossed.

Thanks. Do you mean there are only 192 ports in all the boxes?

Can they not add more ports?

Your basically in a situation where you have to wait until someone cancels their service. Its common enough unfortunately

Why the limit on fibre connections though?

There are doubles etc, but mostly yes.

They wont spend €1-2000 (educated guess) on a cab extension for 1 or 2 extra pairs. If there were 30+ of you left in the cold it'd likely be on the cards, happens in very buys areas.
Why the limit on fibre connections though?

They're based on small street cabinets, old "normal" connections are centralized in the exchange which is much more flexible.

Thanks, if only Eir were a bit more honest on the reason why.

Still cant see why the couldnt have put more connections in originally. The area I live in has been waiting for years.

Depending on the customers services person.
    1. Your house can't get fibre
    2. There is no fibre in your area at all
    3. Your neighbours are not on fibre(they are!)
    4. The ports are all in use.
    5. Next connectivity date 2099
    6. You can get fibre, oh sorry you cant now.

I just cant understand why they didnt put enough ports in from the start.

And either Eir or vodafone dont seem to be interested in calling me back when there is availability. It seems to me that they expect me to hang around near the fibre box when a Eir van turns up and I might be in luck when a port becomes free!

I don't think theres a system that tracks it :-/
They place the order and it will just reject if there are no ports after a day or so.
