Any advice on how to deal with a negative person at work.

Someone who is constantly criticizing everyone & everything.

I do avoid her as much as possible. Any other ideas?

    Ask her to stop?

Challenge her is the only thing. It won't make her stop. But it will make her stop mentioning it to you.

I had similar with someone, and in the end it just got to me. She complained to everyone she met one morning that something happened at 8am that I wasn't there to fix. My hours were 9-5! I called her aside and explained. She kept saying "if there was an emergency" (nothing about the job could have been enough of an emergency that the work couldn't still be completed) I explained that I couldn't fix something if I wasn't here and didn't know about it. As soon as I got in it was sorted in less than 10 minutes and if she'd like for me to be on 24/7 call to approach the CEO and suggest it to him.

I don't know if she ever did, but it stopped her bitching to me, and about me. She kept going with others though! I think it was a popularity thing with her, and she thought by bitching about others it would make people like her. It didn't work!

My stomach was in knots when I approached her! I am the least confrontational person I know, but this particular day I'd just has enough. Before I'd even gotten to my office I'd heard from 3 separate people that she had been around to each of their desks to give out about it. They met me in the corridor in a 'we just want to give you a heads up' way!.. She had not left a message for me that something was wrong, had not mentioned anything to me etc. She loved to bitch about people but would never directly say anything to the person involved.

Be as super positive around her as possible.
If you already avoid her, there's very little else you can do unfortunately.
I would never approach her regarding it as she may have you for bullying!

yep, this seems to work! girl in work..if she's not looking for attention she's giving out about everyone and anyone around her. i wouldnt mind but she wouldnt be too wholesome herself. she is very negative, always a problem with her.

i find that if i challenege her, she doesnt really know what to say, so she'll quieten down a little; or at least she'll go away from me.

last thing i need or want to hear is someone whinging about nothing

You've posted on this issue quite a few times now. Have you spoken to a professional about this issue? It seems to be asking over your life and there is help out there. Have you spoken to your GP or asked for a referral for CBT?

Are you still in that job where your boss reduces you to tears? If that is the case, did you ever go for help like you were advised to? You suffer from anxiety and I don't believe we will be as helpful to you as a good therapist.

This falls well below the expected standard in this forum, I suggest you go and read the charter before thinking about posting here again.
