Tax is 570. Not really an issue. Paying close to that on a 1.6 petrol at the moment.

If I had it for 3 or 4 years I wouldn't expect much of a return anyway.

Search Bill Griffin here and see.

If you do, go through the service book with a fine tooth comb. Actually ring the garages. Especially make sure that the auto box has been serviced correctly with the lubricants done to schedule.

It's a good buy at that money, and a least buying from Bill you're getting good title to it unlike buying from private,
BIll Griffin gets a lot of flack on here , mainly from people who never bought cars from him , and were expecting Eitihad first class service from Ryanair type budget dealer. He's sells hundreds of cars per week so don't expect any lovin in the showroom and his cars normally sell within hours.

Buy with the knowledge that you will be driving it until it dies, resale will be near impossible.

I might go along and have a look anyway. I'll bring someone along who would have a better knowledge of these things than me.

Was just thinking is there mechanics around who provide a service of going to view cars with you? Seems like they'd get a lot of work.

My 09 superb has exactly the same milage. Owned from new, regularly serviced and got whatever it needed. Still as tight as a nut,if that Audi checks out the milage wouldn't put me off,BUT you will be married to it. Be prepared to drive it till it dies, which if minded, shouldn't be any day soon....I hope.:)

The 2.7d is the front drive model and having owned a front drive A5 myself for the last 8 years, you should really be looking for a quattro.

I will hopefully be selling my A5 in a few weeks.
I don't know what it should be worth but I don't think that one is cheap given the miles.

False economy with that mileage imo. You are married to it and that is never good. If it turns out to be a pig, it will be impossible to sell.
Another 2k would give you a large choice of A5.

I was looking at equivalent 08-09, even one with 140-150 currently on the clock are going for 20%+ more. Even those cars assuming 15k a year will have to be given away in 3-4 years, due to mileage and age...

Id have someone properly check it out though...

The only experience I have of them is asking my mechanic about the one he had in his yard for service when I brought my car in. He took off the plastic engine cover and pointed out everything that had been replaced on the engine. There was a lot. An awful lot. Rails, injectors, alternator, etc. A bad one could cost you a lot of money.

Also, the fwd ones appear to be far too torquey to go through the 2 tyres. No matter how gentle you are with the throttle you will spin the front wheels on any sort of loose surface. I'd imagine they absolutely eat front tyres.

Mileage is very high. The distance to the moon is 238000 miles incidentally.

Initial cost factors that in to be fair, compare it to a 2009 lower mileage example.

OP, I'd have no qualms buying from BG.

The 2.7 diesel was over 20k more expensive than the 1.8T when I was buying.
It made little sense considering it was still a front drive. Only alot of mileage could make that pay for a private buyer while businesses would surely go for the diesel regardless.
That would all point to there being very few low mileage versions around.

Would I be made buying this?

    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/audi/a5/used-2009-audi-a5-automatic-2-7-t-dublin-fpa-6848789525298229518

Have always wanted an A5 and it's a decent price but I'm thinking it shouldn't cost so little. I know the reason it is so cheap is because there is a lot of miles on the clock but what sort of other trouble could I expect?

On another note anyone know how reputable Bill Griffin Motors is?

A sort of positive to the high mileage is it probably is genuine.
With all the clocking that seems to be going on especially with imports you could be buying a low mileage car that has done more than that A5.
Another positive is its been doing the mileage that a modern diesel needs to do

There are plenty of lower mileage A5's in that price range on Carzone. There's nothing special about that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,612 ✭✭✭Dardania

Is the primary odometer in miles? So possibly a UK import / from over the border? Might be lingering issues associated with dodgy diesel?

Edit: I'm probably wrong - with that car reg, not being over 120000, it's probably an irish car from the start...

    I wouldn't say theres plenty.

There's one other by a dealer in Dublin for 1500 extra. It is 2008.

I wouldn't fancy buying private to be honest.

By initial cost I mean the cost of buying the thing now :)
WRT it's value in 2/3 years time.......... in comparison terms one woudl have to look at 2.0s of course as due to the pts you list there are not many 2.7s about.
