Electric Shower Issue

    Hi,

We are living in an apartment and the electric shower only runs extremely hot or just cold. There's no in between no matter how much adjusting is done and sometimes the shower will just cut in the middle so the water turns cold. My girlfriend showers at the gym because of it and I just try put up with it but its really uncomfotbale. Looking for solutions as our landlord or rather the intermediary agency the landlord is using is awful. Weve been asking for months for certain issues to be fixed (all of which have been issues since before we moved in) and he just doesn't reply, even when we call into the office we get some excuse and he says he will call in the morning and doesn't. So just seeing if its something we can fix ourselves like most of the stuff weve had to do here.

First thing to try is try run it without the shower head. If the temperature is ok without the head then the issue is with the head. You may need to steep it in white vinegar over night or if its a tesco brand buy a genuine Triton or Mira shower head. There is a filter inside the shower may need cleaning. Find the user manual online to see how this is done. this much you can do yourself. ALWAYS turn power off before removing the cover.
If its neither of these its most likely the elements caked in limescale. Mira element €200 supplied & fitted, Triton element €150 supplied & fitted. If the shower is over 5 years old it would be better value to replace the shower. new shower somewhere between €300 & €350 supplied & fitted

At some point, you'd need to get in touch with the RTB if landlord isn't resolving genuine issues, with what you are entitled to as a renter. A big advantage of renting is you don't have to deal with certain issues.

That being said, cleaning fitlers etc. is a good idea to check as sleeper12 notes - if the shower is not getting enough pressure, the high limit thermostat may be siwtching the heating element in & out (to protect you from scalding)
