Barrister to Solicitor route

    Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience in regards to barristers becoming solicitors. I am qualified as a barrister & have been called to the Bar but am not practising, and will not be in a position to for a very long time, so am now considering the Solicitor route as an option.

To that end, I was hoping someone could give me some advice as to what constitutes "the provision of services of a legal nature" - perhaps thats a stupid question I should direct to the Law Society, but if anyone has experience in this area and would be able to assist I would appreciate it. My current job would have a loose connection to services of a legal nature but I'm not sure if it would qualify depending on how strictly they apply this

The other question I had was whether it is possible to re-transfer back over again??

    Thanks

AFAIK, you must have practised as a barrister for at least three years to qualify for the abridged training route as a solicitor. If you have not practised at the Bar for the requisite period you may be required to undergo the full training process i.e. FE-1s, etc. Contact the Law Society to find out the requirements.

I think there is a conversion course you can do in the UK and you will then be qualified to practice as a solicitor here.

This statement is based on word of mouth i.e. I was talking briefly to someone who said this was their plan. I don't know the ins and outs of it but you might research it in case there is a shorter option there for you.

    All the best.
