So I've just finished Guacamelee, and finished Dust: An Elysian Tail, and they are 2 of the finest games I've ever played. Right good platforming, good stories and humour, well thought out levels and upgrade systems.

But now I need more! I'm on a serious buzz for these styles of games right now, as I've overlooked these types of games for too long now. I can't even stay concentrated on other games I play now.

So good people of the Gaming forum, what did I miss out on recently (within the last few years) that are similar in game play to Dust and Guacamelee?

    I assume PC?

Song of the Deep - http://store.steampowered.com/app/460700/
(Not necessarily a platform game, but great story, exploration based, and a good length)

    Seraph - http://store.steampowered.com/app/425670/
(Fun game, great upgrade system, automatically scaling difficulty)

    Rogue Legacy - http://store.steampowered.com/app/241600/
(Great platform game, randomly generated levels, progressive powerups/abilities (that you keep, so you'll always feel like you are progressing), strong replay value).

Ori and the Blind Forest - http://store.steampowered.com/app/387290/
(Gorgeous platform game, great progression of abilities, long game but you'll need to put in some work - it's pretty hard in places)

Axiom Verge maybe? Maybe more metroidvania than the others you mentioned though.

Oh what about Shadow Complex , I recall a remastered version was released not so long ago.

Just going on what I've played and hasn't been mentioned, the Strider remake was decent enough.

Edit: Remembered another one, The Fall. I really liked that one.

If you have a way of playing it then play Super Metroid. It's what all those games you mentioned are based on, except none have come close to matching Super Metroid. Another one to try is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, the only game in the genre you could say comes close to Super Metroid.

I've not played it yet but I heard Axiom Verge is fantastic and far better than the other indie wannabes to Super Metroid. I'd definitely try that next if you haven't got access to the first two games.

I'd also like to recommend La Mulana but it comes with a caveat: It is exceptionally hard. The platforming and bosses are difficult enough but the real reason is the whole game is a giant puzzle that has to be solved with lots of clues and riddles. if you are playing without a walkthrough a pen and paper is essential. It took me 50 hours to beat with the help of a walkthrough when I was really stuck. It's an amazing game just not for everyone.

Doesn't look bad, but not too into stealth games at the moment. I'll look into it more though.

Sounds interesting, but I find it hard to get into any pixel graphics games. Tried a few but rarely go back to them.

Song of the Deep, Seraph, Rogue Legacy, Ori and the Blind Forest

Song of the deep looks interesting, I'll check that out. As I will with Seraph, but would prefer melee based games. Rogue Legacy I put a good lot of time into, but lost interest after a while. Ori and The Blind Forest looks good. Definitely check that out.
Axiom Verge, Shadow Complex, Strider remake, The Fall.

Axiom Verge is interesting looking, but I'm looking for melee based, probably should have said that!. Shadow Complex I'll look into more. Strider: I started it earlier but it didn't do it for me. The Fall I'll look into more, seems interesting.

Super Metroid. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, La Mulana

Super Metroid, I always tried them back in the day, but wasn't a fan of them. It's the shooting, I didn't really like it (in all the games of similar style). Castlevania: possibly, I'll look into that more. La Mulana: again, not a big fan of the pixel style. Nothing against the games, just not fond of it.

So, maybe I should have said melee based metroidvania with non-pixelated graphics, in a similar vein to Guacamelee and Dust. Not much to ask?! :o

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken and Counterspy are decent for the Vita if you want to try them.

I don't get the love this game gets. The art is second year animation student that has discovered illustrator level and it's as bland as any beat'em up gets.

Just never been sold on the Behemoth's games. Alien Hominid was piss poor contra with bad art and Castle Crashers was mediocre Streets of Rage with mediocre art.

    Harsh.

I played it a lot, I enjoyed it a lot, I finished it and got my moneys worth.

    Job done.
