Irish flag taken down on US military website in fight against ISIS

Probably as much to do with not wanting to be associated with the US military as anything.

Fighting IS is a good cause, but the US is there to do more, as we saw last week when they killed all those Assad soldiers somehow by 'accident'

The western world versus psychotic terrorism.

He said from the comfort of his keyboard without a hint of self-awareness or irony. You know what you do? Get your boots, hard hat, and rifle, and off you go to clean up America, Britain and whoever else's shat-on-doorstep if you are so passionate about it.

Oh hi there! Aren't all Republicans barstool Republicans these day? I'd self-identify as an anti-war Irish civic Nationalist, sorry if that confuses you.

Sure why would we be a target. Not like we have an international airport connected to the USA that any fool seems to be able to walk on the runway. Or if they fancy walking around secure areas like Wallace and grommet.

Well I think we should be involved with the fight against Isis, It's about time we dropped our neatrality and stood up in the world,If and when Isis attacks Ireland we wont be long in running to our love/hate neighbour England, it's embarrassing our flag taken down IMO.

Ireland belongs to a coalition of 67 states formed in September 2014 to coordinate work on a number of fronts, including military operations, halting the flow of foreign fighters, cutting off Islamic State’s access to funding and providing humanitarian relief. Members are not expected to contribute to all aspects, a Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman said, From the link above..

If we belong we should be proud enough to say so.

Morally bankrupt "neutrality" exposed once again.

How can any country be "neutral" in this fight? The western world versus psychotic terrorism. Paddyland does not have to worry. The British will protect us and we can preach stupid and embarrassing neutrality to our heart's content.

Get those playing soldier out of our barracks I say.

Please post a happy thread. Just once. Please.

    Out where?

Syria ? Where they went toe to toe with Al Qaeda and pulled of the amazing rescue of their Filipino comrades? http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/irish-un-troops-in-alqaeda-gun-battle-30549563.html

Lebanon ? where we lost so many good men and for over 4 decades we've done a fantastic job and have the earned the respect of the civilised world? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9JDUTAe9aw

Liberia - where they effected another daring rescue?, Somalia, Congo, Timor or nearer to home like Kosovo where their riot platoon showed the entire how the pros go to work? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM1Vbs5L0t4

    Barracks me bollocks.

We are not neutral in this war. It's not even an official government line that we are neutral.

The only thing we were a neutral for were NATO v Communist countries, even though we were not very neutral

There are Europeans fighting Isis. Best bet is the Kurds if you like non-head cutters. Look out for Turkish and US bombers.

Obama and Clinton are Americans. . You seem confused. One minute we need to side with the US fighting Isis, next we find you believe the president of the US and his Secretary of State are responsible for Isis.

We don't have the resources or the numbers or the political will to fight a war.

Our military have no fighter bomber aircraft or attack helicopters and only have limited heavy artillery and light tanks. We can only send a battalion at a time on peacekeeping operations.

We don't have the ability to fight a sustained ground campaign.

We would take casualties and possibly soldiers would be taken prisoner and we all know what ISIS do to prisoners. The public would not support our involvement in a war.

If our UN peacekeepers started taking casualties more frequently or if we experienced a Jadotville style siege in which an Irish post was surrounded and forced to surrender we would cut and run and probably would suspend our involvement with the UN indefinitely. I don't think the Irish public have much real understanding of what war is really like.

If the 158 Irish at Jadotville had fought to the last man you can be sure subsequent Irish governments would have avoided sending Irish troops abroad ever again.

the rise of Isis came after the US president and killary armed the rebels in Libya and they knew bloddy well the direct consequences were for what they were doing!

Resources or numbers is a political decision that can be reversed. Either way, our contribution would never come from the number of Zeppelins we could field, it would be lending our moral support in a war between Western civilisation and a bunch of fanatics who are determined to destroy Western civilisation.

I don't blame the Department for requesting the flag be removed, but it does highlight the implicit cowardice of our "neutrality". I'm sure there are Irish people who are glad that the flag isn't there, because it may make us less likely to be targeted.

A large percentage of ISIS weapons are US made. An arms imbargo would help defeat ISIS but there would be no $$ to be made then.

    Actually very much wrong ,

Most of there weapons come from russian /eastern European sources and China ,any American weapons were taken from Iraqi troops that fled early on when they first appeared ,

That's still the US. The op wants us to fight Isis with the US. That doesn't make sense.

Yes I realised what's been going on a long time ago. Maybe the OP wants us to start dropping mortars into empty fields for our American overlords. The quicker Basher and Vlad wipe Isis and the rest of the so called moderate rebels off the face of the earth the better! I see another US stooge is wagging a finger at Russian and Syrian officials for bombing the daylights out of the terrorists that are holed up in Aleppo!
