I'm living in rented accomadation and our landlord has booked a gas service engineer to call out to service our boiler. This may be a silly question but what exactly is a gas boiler service? We have a few radiators which are don't heat up too hot will be be able to fix this?

Possibly not, my gas man doesn't want anything to do with radiators. Have you tried bleeding the radiators?

AFAIK a boiler service involves taking the innards out of the boiler and cleaning them. The benefit is similar to servicing a car - you won't notice any immediate difference but the boiler will run more efficiently and regular servicing will prolong it's life.

If it's a plumber who does the servicing and if he has time then he/she may help you out. Gas boilers don't really get that dirty so there isn't much cleaning to do in them. Various Safety checks and flue gas emissions are the majority of a service.

A service is basically only taking a few bits and pieces off the boiler and cleaning them, putting them back on.

Ask the person servicing it to bleed the rads and check the thermostat is working properly, have you tried to turn up the knob on the boiler to increase heat?

Good lord. For anybody reading this, ^^^ is NOT true. It probably is true if you're paying 39.99 for a service from a groupon offer though.

Don't get your knickers in a twist there, I was explaining in lay mans terms to the op that a service won't really make the boiler burn higher without getting too technical.

I know theres a bit more than cleaning it, checking for leaks, making sure water pressure is right, pump is working properly, making sure flue exhaust out and air in are clean.

But my main points were to get the thermostat checked and if the OP actually tried to turn the knob to turn the heat up and bleed the rads.

There's a hell of Alot more than the few points mentioned above.
Op turn your room stat up. If the top of the rads are cooler than the bottom, they need bleeding
